Re: The Princess and the Frog

I can't remember a teaser for any of the recent WDFA films. Although there may have been some.

Have Disney done this sort of teaser before? Seems like they are taking a leaf from the book of Pixar to me. Which is of course no bad thing.

I think they're definitely taking a more creative approach to selling the movie than before under Lasseter's leadership which can help get the message across without revealing anything from the actual film.

I can't remember right now but did they try this for Brother Bear with the two moose? I don't think that worked too well ay.

As for Randy Newman.. hopefully his singing will be held off for the end credits. And I'd love a more big brass band or jazz score for a picture in this locale. I look forward to seeing what they do.

Well we can forgive them for TP. It's heart was in the right place.

The Jezebel comments really make me laugh. In no way, shape, or form did I interpret the lightning bug to be black at any point. It is still a stereotype of some Cajun people, but it's certainly not racist in any sense.

I second the notion of holding Newman out of it for as long as possible. I want a nice jazzy score for this movie.

I think this is a pretty sweet start. Tiana is so cute, they're going back to characterization, and it's quite clear that this scene isn't going to appear in the movie at all. And I'd like to point out that the firefly isn't a stereotypical black person, but a stereotypical CAJUN person, which includes blacks AND whites in Nawlins. I mean, it's not every day I defend a billion dollar company, but times HAVE changed, and I'm sure the artists behind this movie are keeping an open mind.

Whatevs, I've been waiting for this movie ever since I was a little kid and was always relegated to "Pocahontas" when my friends played Princesses. Hopefully, this means that by the time 2009 rolls around, I can play a face character at DL!

ETA: It means a lot to me that the first film Disney makes after its return to 2D animation includes the company's first black princess. Like, for srs.

It's "eh" not "ay" Coheteboy, you hozer.

That list of films is enough to give me some faith in this movie. Also, for all you Treasure Planet haters, that was the film they always wanted to do for Disney, they got forced into doing the three middle ones because they had to make three "profitable films" for Disney first. I'm sure they're happy with how a large majority of people dislike their most recent work.

Back on topic, I agree that Randy Newman should be kept out of this film as long as possible. His songs all sound the same anyway, and the last thing I want to hear Tiana sing is "left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot...."

If they wanted a "jazzy score" why not get Henry Mancini? If there is one thing that guy can write, it's a jazzy score, and he's already worked on one of Ron and John's films before (GMD).

I was initially looking forward to seeing this movie, but now I just don't really care (and that was before I saw the teaser), which is sad.
I like The Happiest Millionaire. What's wrong with that?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the reason that Henry Mancini isn't on this movie is because he's kinda dead.

Re: The Princess and the Frog

Yeah, Manicini's music hasn't been as lively, lately.

They had a great jazzy score for Emperor's New Groove. OK, it was Big Band style. Obviously, Dixieland jazz band with the brass/saxaphone/clarinet/drums piano is needed somewhere in the movie. I'm really surprised that they didn't have Alan Menken score it. He is just THE man, regardless of the style of music, he can take on practically any type of genre of music, and make it sound phenomenal. His stuff just never gets boring, and he's been Disney's go to guy for animated movies for nearly 20 years.

I just saw the teaser for it, and I'll admit it looks intriguing.

I checked IMDB and he's not. He's old for sure but not dead, anyway it was just random dreaming.

Lasseter didn't want Menken because he wanted someone "different" since Menken does practically everything for Disney (and for good reason!). I like Lasseter and all, but this may not have been one of his best choices.

Re: The Princess and the Frog

I'm excited for the return to 2D.

But from the teaser I have a few bones to pick with Disney. At least in the teaser, I was no impressed with the background or VD of of the film or the mannerisms of the characters in the trailer. It seems like they're all supposed to be comic characters. They don't compliment each other at all.

But it is just a treaser... I'll have to wait for the film to find out!
