Little Mermaid cast switch during intermission

Went to the show tonight (it was great! ). Right before the second act started, they announced another actress was taking on the part of Ariel. Anyone got more info? I couldn't find anyone to ask after the show.

Did first act Ariel appear to be sort of "off" at all?

I have no idea what happened I was just curious, was the Ariel in the first act an understudy? Only thing I can think of was the first act was an understudy and they replaced her at intermission with an alternate understudy cause the first one perhaps wasn't up to par for the lead role.

Unless for some reason Sierra Boggess, who is the lead as Ariel, couldn't finish her performance so an understudy had to step in. If that is the case I am just as clueless as you as to the reason.

I'm guessing it wasn't serious if it didn't get the coverage the accident in May did, nor a delay... it was just the first time I'd been to a show that had a cast switch mid-show and I've gone to 2-3 shows a year since my first show in the late 80s
