Fun photos and captions of the scoring sessions (secret code name, Corporate Headquarters) featuring composer Michael Giacchino, director J.J. Abrams and Timothy Olyphant conducting the orchestra!?!

My hubby is a total Star Trek geek (and Star Wars and D&D...surprising, huh?)
As a late birthday present I'm taking him to an IMAX showing on May 8.
I don't mind if the actors don't really 'look' like their precedessors, but I hope the personalities, quirks, etc are similar. As for them all being young, well, of course...Paramount is thinking ahead and you get more sequels out of younger actors.

    Sure wish I could go.

But on the plus side, my Star Trek TOS Blu-ray set arrived from Amazon yesterday, so I'm able to get my geek on for the new movie watching some classic stuff for a week. And my tickets for me and seven buddies are at will call for next Thursday's IMAX screening.

    Re: 'star Trek' 2009

I was a Star Trek fan at one point in my life and this film does not look very good.

To some fans, it is like the DCA of Star Trek films. At its very core, Star Trek is about the exploration of new frontiers and horizons - both outwardly in the form of space voyages and inwardly in the form of commentaries on the human condition. Unfortunately, those elements seem to have been shelved in favor of jetpack powered dives through the atmosphere and giant snow monsters. While they provide thrills, this film seems to skew too much towards the tone and vernacular of generic summer blockbusters rather than the Roddenberry spirit of innovation.

    Re: 'star Trek' 2009

I just got home from seeing Star Trek.

    Amazing.

I'm not really a Star Trek fan, I used to watch reruns of The Next Generation when I was a kid, but never really knew what was going on. This film is a great film. I went with a friend of mine who is a big Trekkie and she had very low expectations and came out very pleased.

I think this film succeeds in pleasing fans while reinventing the franchise in a way that stays true to its roots while becoming fresh and new enough to appeal to new fans.

It's a great film, slick, gorgeous to watch, a great cast, funny, emotional. There were a couple stylistic things (notably the frequent lens/light flares) that I thought were sometimes distracting, but everything else was great. Strong story, great acting.

    I'm excited for a sequel.

    Re: 'star Trek' 2009

As a Star Trek fan, I still couldn't believe this flick was rating 94% (as I write this) on Rotten Tomatoes. After just now seeing it, I now know why. All around great popcorn summer action flick and still has the original series as its true roots. Can't wait to see it again!
