    Re: 'star Trek' 2009

I am going to see it today at 8pm in IMAX at the Gardenwalk in Anaheim with friends. I am so excited to see it. I grew up on all Star Trek (from parents) and when I heard this, I was ready.

'Star Trek' has set the record for the 2nd highest opening day ever of a live-action film with $31 million with its Thursday and Friday box office take. It comes in behind Paramount Pictures' own 'Iron Man' which took in $38.7 million on its opening day last May.

Hubby is a TREKKIE and we both saw it last night and loved it. Loved the characters and felt that the actors fit wonderfully.

The movie was great! But I'm still hoping for a Seven-of-Nine spinoff.

    Re: 'star Trek' 2009

I decided to not post this in the Star Trek review thread as all the reviews of the flick are coming in and I am pretty much sold on it, choosing not to interrupt the flow over there. It seems to suck not. That being said, I'm sure I'll catch it this next weekend.

One thing that grabbed me early on was the kickass trailer (#3) and as the thing plays out, I can't resist that friggin music. It sounds like The Dark Knight, but with ten times the teeth. So I'm thinking, "okay....at the very least this is gonna be the best Trek soundtrack ever."

    WRONG.

I keep forgetting this ever since making the rude discovery right around the time the Spawn movie came out over 10 years ago. Many times the music you hear in trailers does NOT represent the final score in the film itself. The film used in the Spawn trailer was lifted from the Robert DeNiro "Frankenstein" flick.

So, having forgotten this, I just played through samples of the entire Trek soundtrack over on the film's official site. Nope, nothing sounded familiar. Good music, I grant you - but this didnt sound like that sweeping score I heard in the trailer.

So having done a tiny bit of sleuthing, I managed to locate the source of this amazing sound:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igqW_0c6GDQ"]YouTube - Two Steps From Hell - Freedom Fighters (from Star Trek Trailer)[/ame]

It seems that there are firms that specialize in simply making marketing music for various projects for licensing. This company, "Two Steps From Hell" does just that. I....I did not know that. That's weird, wild stuff, Ed.

Seems that Paramount licensed a composition called "Freedom Fighters" for use in the new Trek trailer. Just too bad that the final music in the film lacks the ooomph I'm hearing in this clip though. Wwwwwow.

The Trek Trailer that uses this music is also shown at their site:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7w4vk5OZmn8"][/ame]
"The old man's gonna knock on the sky. Listen to the sound."

    AP'er since 2004. Yup.....I'm one of THEM.

Sorry you're disappointed because it's a common thing for trailers to use sounds that pull or trigger on certain emotions. Definitely has a Batman Begins flavor to it and I noticed when I saw the trailer as well.

I just realized, I didn't sit through the credits. Were there any extra scenes during or at the end of the credits? I just sat there for a bit listening to the original theme song which was a blast.

No worries. I have the track itself now on my Voyager. Still gonna see the flick.

And yeah...i'm familiar with the practice of using music with a "hook" to get audiences in the seats. Just forgot about it until I remembered the Spawn trailer music was nowhere to be found in that film too.

No extra scene, but the final credit card read:

    In Memory of
    Gene Roddenberry
    and
    Majel Barrett Roddenberry

    Nice touch.
