I totally agree. It's not jiving with me either, BUT! I couldn't help get chills because I am hoping this generates more 2-D works in the future. I'll go see it of course, but I do have major reservations.....we'll see!

Now this trailer makes it clear that it's based on "The Frog Prince", a similar story but a completely different plot. And also, the Wikipedia now says that's it's based on a young adult novel by E. D. Baker! I've been so confused, the whole time I thought it would be a tale more similar to The Frog Princess and was wondering how they were going to do that, haha. The Wiki article for the Frog Princess fairy tale still says the movie is an adaptation of that tale, as well.
Dooooooon't believe things you read on Wikipedia.

Oh this trailer! In classic Disney geek fashion I was almost crying by the end of the clip. I so can't wait for this movie!

Disney Rep at the sneak for UP last night confirmed there will be a 3D trailer for this in front of the 3D version of UP. Should be interesting if and when I get to see the 3D version.

I highly recommend watching the teaser2 (that's what they're calling it) in hi-def at the Apple site (link above in DarthBrian's post). Watching it in YouTube quality does not do the animation, or sound, any justice. I must admit to feeling only so-so when I first saw the teaser, but after seeing it in hi-def I was blown away.

I am ecstatic to be looking forward to a good "old-school" animated Disney movie. I loved those growing up and I own them all! The stories never get old, the songs are always perfect and the characters are always so lovable! This looks awesome and I know there will be so much in store for the audience by just knowing that the film is set in New Olreans!

Re: Princess and the Frog Trailer is HERE

So, she TURNS INTO A FROG .... i'm sorry but that is VERY cliche with Shrek, Emperor's New Groove, The Shaggy Dog, the list continues...

I really hope the movie doesn't start out with this transformation, as I'm sure I would relate to a princess faster than with a FROG (not to mention the princess is gorgeous and deserves the greatest attention in this film)

Other then that, the movie looks exciting. It's wonderful to see a new villain, a real villain.

Can somebody clarify about the whole frog thing, though? Is it going to be like The Little Mermaid (half one thing, half the other).

I would hope so, otherwise the early hype I got from Barry Cook himself when he did the talk at my college may have been exaggerated (sp?). I mean, the guy directed Mulan and cut off a person asking about the future of 2D animation to say that this movie will bring back the old nostalgic feelings of when he was working for Disney. And he started with Tron, I believe.

And I would hope it is half-and-half since you do see images of her as a little girl and as a young woman towards the end of the trailer. I seriously doubt they would pull something as cliche as telling the movie in flashback.

By the way, did anyone notice that Oprah is in the voice cast?

I was surprised to see that she turns into a frog by kissing the frog. Can't wait to see this movie!

So far, the aesthetic doesn't jive with me; what I see in the trailer doesn't feel rooted in either the 20's or New Orleans. I hope I'm wrong and the rest of the film will feel period and not just generic "princess" or "Disney". Seemed like Jazz Age Naw'leans to me . The trailer definitely showed a classic transatlantic steamer, Naveen and some kid dancing to a jazz band, a New Orlean streetcar (Named Desire?), and a shot of the New Orleans icon, St. Louis cathedral. And then there were the less obvious things like shots of bayous, gators, and a voodoo priest. This trailer seems positively brimming with the vibe of the Big Easy.

My impression is that a lot must happen before the transformation... she somehow goes from being a modest waitress to a ball-gowned Southern Belle by the time she kisses the prince... that's a pretty big character change which I'm sure will need the first half of the movie or so to explain. So I think you're probably looking at a half-and-half scenario.

Yeah, she signed on a while ago, if I remember correctly. According to IMDB, she's playing a character named Eudora.

So when can we expect to see the face characters walking around New Orleans Square?
