Come on people ... put your personal feelings about Eisner aside and look at what he did for the company in the 80's.

    YES he should, without doubt.

    Sorry for the double post:

So your saying that no Disney legend has ever done anything bad for the company???

Come on, even Walt made his mistakes. Fun and Fancy Free? Make Mine Music?

Lest we forget that Cinderella was going to be the last Disney animated movie if it hadn't done well.

I know Eisner is not the most popular person right now. But I guarantee if we look back at his tenure as a whole we will see that he did alot of good things.

As a Disney Stockholder I sure wish I had bought some Disney stock pre-Eisner and sold it now.

Eisner's current deeds are not very highly thought of, but if there is one thing that Eisner did do, it is saving the company for future generations. Someday, Disney will be the company that it once was. Every company has it's up's and down's. Eisner did usher in the Decade of Disney, and is responsible for many wonderful things. Numbers don't lie, the parks are still more popular than anywhere else. Treatment of Employees really needs to improve.

It seems to me, that Eisner had good intentions, and the powers underneath him really messed things up. He wasn't a saint, but he was a savior in his time, and I think he does deserve a Disney Legend status. He will never be forgotten.

I say yes. He turned the company around in his heyday with Frank Mills. But around 2000, he just lost his touch and did what he could. It was finally time to end his days as CEO.

Absolutely. He saved this company. He can't so everything right, we're only human. He did a heck of a lot of good. If he hadn't come along it's quite possible there would no longer be a Disneyland.

How about a half-broken window, to truly represent his contributions to Disney?

Re: Should Michael Eisner be inducted as a Disney Legend

I really think he should as his record currently stands. I think it would be best to finish seeing how he really effected the company in his later years.

I think the problem is that verybody want's the CEO to be the Disney Company's romanticized version of Walt. Walt may have been a creaive genius but he was flawed. One character aspect Walt and Eisner share is apparently micromanagement. Walt was a control freak. It seems the best thing for the Disney company has been partners. Where Roy was Walt's fiscal responsibilty, Wells was Eisner's courage.

Would we really want a man who killed imagineering and the Animation Studios, who cheapened the brand, who almost killed Disneyland, and who cheapened the brand by building $1 parks all around the world indicted as a "Disney Legend"?

Sure. I mean, Malefica and Ursula, Cruella de Ville and such are Disney Legends, too...

    1) There would be no Disneyland if it weren't for him (and if it were, it would be owned by some other company who probably could care less about "Disney")
    2) There is still animation....only now it is in the form of CGI. Also, without the Fab 3 (Mike, Frank & Jeff) there would be no Animation Studio. It would have been gone in the 80s.
    3) What about all the expensive things he has built? Splash Mountain, Mission: Space ($100+million), Animal Kingdom (largest Disney park in the world), Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, Remember, RoE, etc, etc, etc.
    4) Oh and btw, Eisner is the one who built the "Disney" brand to huge levels. What are the most "selling" brands in the world right now? Pooh, Mickey, Princesses and now he has made Fairies, Cuties and has aquired the Muppets. And if I remember correctly, "Disney" is the 2nd (or 3rd) biggest brand in the World (behind Coca-Cola).

About killing imagineering...I do not think designing state of the art vehichles like the ones in Indiana Jones and creating interactive/animatronic/walking figures to be a down grade in imagineering. I think those are technological break throughs in the industry.
