It's not that I dislike it; I guess I don't see the fascination with it like everyone else does. I think that it is one of the most overrated animated movies Disney has made. The characters aren't very likeable especially Zazu, the hyenas, and Simba, and I think it has some weak music compared to the other movies.

Again, I can understand people's love of it, but it's just not my cup of tea. Flame away.

A Goofy Movie. It has no right being as fun as it is.

How true that is, it's about 5x funnier than most Disney animated features.
I like The Happiest Millionaire. What's wrong with that?

I think the music is weak if you're listening to it without the context of the movie... with the exception of Circle of Life. I listened to the soundtrack prior to watching the movie and I was very ho-hum about the songs. The score though is beautiful.

And The Lion King's appeal in my opinion is probably the amazing quality of animation, the epic scale, and it was also the first Disney animated film that had this amazing all-star cast.

Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, Rowan Atkinson (mr. bean talks!), Johnathan Taylor Thomas, Ferris Bueller (forgot his real name right now), etc etc.

I mean... it was HUGE for an animated film. Throw in the Mufasa moment that brought everyone back to the "bambi's mom" days and what you have is a movie that brought parents and their kids together in a very huge way.

It was a phenomenon, which are usually about overrated things anyway. But what made it a phenomenon are the people who think it's great and that's it.

Somewhere out there someone is probably thinking that Finding Nemo is overrated.

The problem is now though that Disney started to use the epic all star cast as a basis for their characters. The pendulum is now swinging the other way for going back to unknowns.

I also think because the music was from Elton John, and played on the radio over and over and over, it became very overplayed and passe.

The animation is of course spectacular, but we'd been seeing that since The Little Mermaid. And I guess I just don't see it as epic as everyone else did. True, by very definition of an epic it fits the bill, but there's just something about it that doesn't do it for me. I do love Timon and Pumbaa though.

I agree that phenomena are a result of people liking it and saying it is. I still haven't seen Titanic. Or Dark Knight. Hype doesn't get to me.

Or else I am just weird.

Ya, when Disney movie music gets played at the grocery store it sorta loses it's "magic".

I'm also glad to see a lot of people enjoy Treasure Planet as much as I do. Just thought everyone might be interested... A couple of weeks ago I showed it to my class (5th - 8th graders) and they were mesmerized by it. To the point that they didn't even want to break for recess!! LOL Whenever we do something special I show a Disney film and they pretty much love them all. We go from the "classics" to the lesser known films such as Treasure Planet and Atlantis. (They also prefer the 2D animation to the 3D). See there IS a market out there....

Coheteboy, how dare yooouuuuuu! The Lion King soundtrack rocks. You better believe I had every single song on there memorized word for word....well back in the day. This, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas are my top faves although Hunchback and Beauty and the Beast are close behind.
And seriously with Treasure Planet people?!?! Am I missing something?

I'm with you Izzy. That movie and Atlantis were watched once and that was enough in this lifetime.

Oh You're just saying that to get people riled up. The truth is Pocahontas has the best soundtrack of any Disney film. Stop trying to incite crazed debate over something you obviously don't believe.

    In no particular order
    Treasure Planet
    Fox and the Hound
    Goofy Movie
    Hunchback
    Hercules

Except for Fox and the Hound, these are movies that came out as my son was growing up. Goofy Movie Rocked!
