Re: Michael Jackson dead at age 50

It was said in Al's column on miceage that Team Disney Anaheim is considering bringing back Captain EO as part of the Halloween festivities.

All I can say is I hope so.

    Aww, you're welcome!

I really, really hope they bring Captain EO back.

I know some people keep saying they'd be "cashing in" on his death, but fact of the matter is MJ loved Disney and Disneyland. There are very few other things that come to mind that could possibly be better in terms of commemorating him.

Downtown Disney House of Blues is doing an MJ tribute. This might be the closest you get to an MJ salute at Disneyland.

State Farm insurance is now using the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" as the soundtrack of their TV spots.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. Anyone else?

I bet it was a decision made months ago after paying a hefty licensing fee to use the song. I doubt it's as crass as it seems

Shame on State Farm for what? For paying the estate for the license to use the song in a commercial? How do you think the estate is supposed to continue earning money for the children? Should the catalog fade into oblivion now that he is dead?

I certainly hope you're right, because "crass" was my very first reaction until I stopped to think about it.

I did suggest to my wife that if they just wanted the sentiment expressed in the song, they could have used Mariah Carey's cover.

But she suggested, correctly, that hers didn't have nearly the emotional impact (just from the song itself, that is) that the original had.

And, of course, it wasn't nearly as good.
