And thus the logic of Disney's move is exposed.

BTW the increase in the single day ticket was about 4% while APs went up by around 10%. Over time if they stay with the increase differential the AP will become comparatively more expensive than the single day tickets.

It's not so much the increase...I just don't go that often...I always end up renewing, but I'm starting to ask why...ya know.

Yikes. That's painful. I'll probably still buy the AP, but that's going to sting a bit.

Looks like I'll probably be done when my AP expires.

Yes, they happen at the same time.

Disney isn't losing money - it's that revenues and profits are down - not that they are in the red.

The real problem are the So Cal AP's which cause crowds. Why can't Disney keep them on a leash. I agree with you 100% AP who think Premium is costy would just downgrade to Deluxe. I might do that. Families that have four or five will probably just get Deluxe.

And the lower tier AP's are only increasing $10 to $20, when they are really too low a price. If they HAD to increase prices in the midst of this ecomic mess, they should have just done $20 on ALL AP's.

DLR must be pretty close in price to a WDW ap, by now.

So Cal select passes are cost effective after two visits. I can't see why any local would buy a single day pass over that. At that point the single day pass is largely irrelevant except for non-locals, and Disney is getting fewer of those as people stay closer to home. If the single day pass is irrelevant, the masses will flock to the cheaper APs and make the most out of their investment by going more often than they normally would, hence larger crowds at odd times.

WDW is raising their ticket prices also, to $79 per day for adults and $68 per day for kids. Multi-day tickets also just went up at WDW.

    New 2009 Prices

One Day - One Park Adult Ticket
    Disneyland $72
    WDW $79

One Day Park Hopper Adult Ticket
    Disneyland $94
    WDW $131

    Deluxe Adult Annual Pass
    Disneyland $289
    WDW $499

    Premium Adult Annual Pass
    Disneyland $429
    WDW $599

It should be noted that WDW only has two types of AP's, but many more options when it comes to multi-day tickets. Disneyland has four types of AP's, but not as many multi-day ticket options as WDW. But across the board, prices are noticeably higher for WDW admission media of any type.

Ok as a cast member here is my advice. Either buy your tickets online now or buy the grocery store or Disney store ones in the next couple days. For annual passes they start a year from your first entry not from purchase. If purchased before increase the expiration should be January 4th. Only warning with purchasing online right now is the server is VERY sensitive and I have a feeling the rush of people trying to beat the increase will crash it several times today. If you order online be patient and be nice to the ticket services cast members you may have to call for help. They are probably just as mad about this as you. Price changes are a big headache for the cast members too.

I'd like to order online now, but as I understand it I can't do monthly payments if I order online. Is that correct?

Wow thank god I got my premium pass last month. But really when I think about it I'm still going to pay the prices to go no matter how much they increase. Pretty sure the WDW prices will be the Disneyland prices someday.

Just wanted to make sure this got into the other thread too... I'll see if I can figure out the question about online passes...

EDIT: Okay, I got through the Phone Lines a bit quicker than I thought. The CM said that if you buy a ticket or pass today, that pass or ticket would be valid when you visit the park. I asked if I would have to pay the upgrade and she said "no." I also asked if there was an expiration to the ticket to which she also said "no." I'm not sure about that expiration thing though, so I'd go off the 1/4 year thing someone said up above as a reference...

DIsneyland is a bargain compared to WDW.

Disney should eliminate the So Cal AP pass and SO Cal Select Pass programs all together. Offer 2 passports: the Deluxe and the Premium and that is it. Also if a Deluxe passholder wants to gain admission on a black-out day - charge them the full purchase of a one day ticket not $40 which is about 60% of cost of a one day ticket.

I think Disney is eventually going to go back to a 2 passholder programs: the Deluxe and the Premium.
