James Cameron's 'Avatar' - Poll Added

On August 21, the world will get its first look at director James Cameron’s motion picture epic AVATAR, when Twentieth Century Fox and Cameron debut the film’s trailer everywhere – while select cinemas and IMAX® theaters will screen extended footage prepared by the renowned filmmaker for this global “Avatar Day” event.

The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX® 3-D, IMAX® 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.

The extended look at AVATAR will unspool only on August 21 – and only in 3-D – in select theaters and IMAX®. Details on locations and reserving tickets for this extraordinary and unprecedented experience will be announced soon.

In addition on the 21st, Ubisoft® will unveil the trailer for their videogame James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, and Mattel will reveal the action figures for the film’s Avatar and alien Na’vi characters.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

AVATAR opens in theaters everywhere December 18, 2009.

    Re: James Cameron's 'Avatar'

Free tickets will be distributed online starting Monday for special Imax presentations of a 16-minute trailer for Fox's upcoming 3D sci-fi actioner "Avatar."

The extended trailer, featuring an on-camera intro by director James Cameron, hits 101 Imax venues in the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 21 in a promo push announced at the recent Comic-Con International confab in San Diego. On the same date, theaters worldwide will begin showing more conventional 2D and 3D "Avatar" trailers.

Fans will be provided theater information and other "Avatar" tidbits via AvatarMovie.com. Visitors to the site also will see ticketing instructions and links to individual movie theaters.

"It will be two tickets to a customer to keep people from hoarding," Fox distribution boss Bruce Snyder said Wednesday. "We expect a tremendous amount of interest from the fans who are aware of 'Avatar.' "

The extended "Avatar" trailer will play just before and after separately ticketed performances for Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." At most of the specialty venues, the trailer will be shown between 6-7 p.m., running twice within the hour span.

I am SO looking forward to this.

I wasn't a big fan of the cartoon, but the movie looks absolutely AMAZING.

I'm confused...is this the same as The Last Airbender? Which is being directed by M Night Shymalan (or however you spell it )? Or is this a different feature entirely?

    *geeks out*

I really hope this is as good as the hype makes it seem. Sci-fi may have its second (or third) golden age if it does!

    Re: James Cameron's 'Avatar'

I want to point out that James Cameron's AVATAR has no relation to M.Night's THE LAST AIRBENDER.

Paramount's SneezeBurpFartboy (The Last Airbender) is based on the nickelodeon series AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER.

Cameron's AVATAR was already registered as a movie title before Paramount could get to it, so they dropped "avatar" from their title.

And while I am intrigued, this reminds me of MechWarrior meets Delgo.

I loved Avatar: The Last Airbender. I'm looking forward to that one more. This, however, looks pretty slick, too.

I dunno, the trailer didn't do much for me to be honest.
