Morgan Creek is wrapping up negotiations to finance "Man of the Year," a comedy that will re-team Robin Williams with director Barry Levinson ("Good Morning Vietnam", "Wag the Dog", "Men in Black") reports Variety.
Williams will play a Jon Stewart-like host of a latenight political talkshow who runs for president to make noise on the campaign trail. The stunt backfires after a series of unusual circumstances leads him to victory.
Levinson, who wrote the script, will begin production late in the fall with shooting Toronto, and exteriors in Maryland and DC.
Freaking genius stuff here! This is high concept comedy! I love it!
It sounds like a good concept so i hope they can pull it off. Williams is one of those actors who, in my opinion, is only as good as the director controlling him. His schtick gets old fast for me. A good enough director that can keep his hijinx focused can produce great results, but too often they just let him go crazy and it's just not very entertaining to me. I feel the same way about Jim Carey and few other actors.
