Superheros at Disneyland? Disney buys Marvel (merged threads)

Wow Disney is buying Marvel for 4billion!!! (close of sale is pending govt. Review)
does this mean we will see the lucrative superhero franchise at Disneyland?
Or will the characters be M.I.A. Like the muppets? Not that I am proposing superheros should be at the park although i'm sure many millions of boys would certainly like that. Very very interesting. Let's see what his means for Disney/pixar/marvel land

UPDATE: Stan Winston speaks positively about the "sale"

I just read it online, after I googled "Disney buys Marvel". Check the Wall St Journal...
    "
    Disney to Acquire Marvel Entertainment

Worldwide leader in family entertainment agrees to acquire Marvel and its portfolio of over 5,000 characters"

This really is unbelievable news!!!! What does this now mean for universal studios florida? Could DCA get a version of the "spidey" ride now? Amazing!!!

I don't see John Lassiter wanting to copy what Universal already did. If anything, I see a new ride along those lines featuring either Spidey again with improved animation, or taking it in a new direction with Iron Man who has, in the time since Universal opened Islands of Adventure, become a HUGE deal for Marvel. And furthermore I don't see the X-Men's ride presence being relegated to a Mad Tea Party rip-off.

This, of course, is all hypothetical, depending on if Disney even decides to bring Marvel to the parks.

*starts wondering who would get park character treatment beyond the obvious ones*

The parks won't get any superheroes. It's like Disney's ownership of Miramax pictures. It'll be separate!

Iger also told CNBC that the acquisition was not a signal of more buys ahead for Disney and he said that Disney was looking to emphasize the Marvel name rather than re-brand it in the Disney name.

Iger said that the acquisition will also help bring a younger male audience to the Disney brand.

So let's see... it's going to stay Marvel (which is heavily branded for young males), and will not be re-branded Disney.

And at the same time it's going to to bring young males to the Disney brand.

    Uh-huh.

Nah, no Spidey in DLR. Nope. Not even a bit.

And no Uncle Stan walk-around face characters. Nuh-uh.

While I personally don't envision Iron Man & The Hulk stomping around DLR, I can see Spider-Mickey and Iron Duck plushes coming soon.

Re: Superheros at Disneyland? Disney buys Marvel

Sure, you purists all deny it now, but DCA (not Disneyland proper) would be a great home for the Marvels in their own little corner of the park. If the Muppets can be owned but seperate, and still be in the parks, and if the freaking Power Rangers can show up at Disney's Hollywood Studios, so too can some of the most recognizable characters in pop culture for decades.

Again, decades. In a few years, 2012 to be exact, Spider-Man will be 50 years old. That's more generations that will have grown up with that character than some A-List Disney properties like the Little Mermaid, let alone passing trends like High School Musical. If this works out, you all mark my words, Disney will find a way to milk this for as much synergy as they can, and that includes in the parks.

Cars Land simply isn't enough for young boys. Cars Land and the Marvel Superheroes? Suddenly you've got an irresistable combination from a marketing standpoint, and if you don't think Disney doesn't realize that, well, nothing I can say will sway you.

This has also been confirmed in the Los Angeles Times.

We shall see what happens with this. No doubt this has just immediately strengthened Disney's presence in the young male market. Except for a few rare flashes in the pan such as the Pirates franchise, Marvel has now secured their ability to deliver to more of a masculine audience.

How about the rumored 5th theme park in Florida or the third in California? Scratch the Villians theme in Fl and any theme in Cali and go with a Superhero park. It would be huge if Disney did it right. And seperate from the other parks too.
