Re: What were your favourite movies of summer 2009?

Let's see now, in my opinion the best movies of the Summer were the Dark Horses...and there are two that come to mind.

In terms of comedy, The Hangover really shined. This no-name cast pulled through and gave us a really solid R rated comedy.

The other film is District 9, just like the Hangover it came out of nowhere with a no-name cast and knocked us out with a great story, acting and special effects on a seriously low budget that put many other films to shame.

For me, the ones that flopped were the big budget popcorn flicks.
G.I. Joe- This film wouldn't even make little kids want the toys for it, it's just that bad...The More You Know!

However the biggest flop is Transformers 2- I honestly do not care this film raked in a high gross. There are so many screw ups in this film it's not even funny, speaking of funny...I could not tell if this film was an action flick or a comedy. Most of the humor was forced and it came out really akward. TF2 also shows that a mindless popcork flick should NEVER be nearly 3 hours long, unless you have the skills of Christopher Nolan don't even try.
Disney and Universal fan for life!...Shocking ain't it?

I'm not crazy, now if you will excuse me I have tea time with the ghosts at Haunted Mansion.

    1. Hangover-nothing made me laugh harder and non-stop!

    2. UP! I am a 21 year old man and i teary eyed at the beggining a really cool and amazing movie.

    3. G.I Joe- I thought this wasnt that bad i had low expectations and went because my dad wanted to go.

    4. Star Trek-once again dad took me, loved it!

    5. Bruno- if you have seen it you can say that this movie just has no comparission i have no comment made you laugh and made you very disturbed.

edit: not ranking orders just numbered for the sake of organization.

Hands down, without a doubt 500 Days of Summer!

I saw it three times in theaters, and if you haven't seen it yet, drop what you are doing AND GO SEE IT.

Close up on that list are also UP and Inglourious Basterds.

I think that the two best movies of the summer have been "UP" and "Star Trek".

I agree with most folks that UP and Star Trek were the best movies, but GI Joe is pretty good - about the same level as Night at the Museum 2.

GI Joe isn't exactly a war movie; it's more like a Bond movie aimed at the (pre-) teen crowd (or maybe an "A-Team" episode with an unlimited budget). I've seen it a couple of times with my eight year old; we've had trouble finding some of the action figures - but whether they're popular with his classmates or collectors, I can't say...

Inglourious Basterds. . . I wondered what you'd get if Quentin Tarantino made a war movie. "Each and every man under my command owes me 100 Nazi scalps. . . and I want my scalps!"

Re: What were your favourite movies of summer 2009?

I pretty much really liked everything I saw this summer (Star Trek, Up, Harry Potter, Departures, 500 Days of Summer), so it's a tough choice. I guess I'd probably go with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince which is to date my favorite in the series. Still hoping to catch GI Joe, Inglorious Basterds, Surrogates, and District 9, but honestly I don't think I'm going to get to those until DVD.
