"HOW THE WEST WAS WON" playing @ Cinerama Dome

HANG ON TO YOUR HATS AND GLASSES .. CUZ THIS HERE IS THE W.I.D.E.S.T SCREEN HERE IN THE WILDERNESS!!!

Get ready for an encore presentation of a piece of Hollywood History:

........ Is playing at the Cinerama Dome Theater this Oct. 28 thru Nov. 3rd:

    http://www.arclightcinemas.com/do/de...12.jsp&path=cs

This was shown in 2003 at the Cinerama Dome theater in Hollywood ...

and I thought I'd pass on the word for anyone who might have missed this back in 2003.

For those who don't understand all the hoopla .. let me explain the other reason, other than this being a classic Hollywood film -

How The West Was Won ... is one of a few films shot in a process using three cameras .. interlocking together to create an emormously wide picture.

    Something like this:

Todays films are iether shot in a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 or 2.35:1.

But CINERAMA was a whopping 2.76:1 approximate.

Not not only was it wide .. but the size of each film negative was significantly bigger than what's used today .... resulting in some rather impressive resolution .. even for "2005" standards.

How the West Was Won ..... has an incredible brilliance in it's original presenation with vibrant colors ... a depth of field that is breathtaking ... over all .... It's a shear "E Ticket" thrill.

Only a few Cinerama theaters exist today ....... original "Cinerama" films .. shown in their original format .. even rarer.

So ... if you feel like catching some Hollywood History ... or if this is one of your favorite films ... or if you feel like catching a good ole "Disneyland E Ticket" type experience ... this movie ought to pull you into an "attraction" feel with this format .. and this film .. which is a shear treat.

    check it out!

I can't wait! It's amazing that this piece of film history is still around for us to enjoy in it's original exhibition format. Thanks Escapé for the comparison of the aspect ratio. That is cool.

If anyone remotely considers themselves film buffs they should get their tickets NOW!

And though this is not exactly "Cinerama" .......

Maybe we'll get to see this again .... now that a brand new 70mm Ultra Panavision print of this exists ... that it will be shown for it's 42nd anniversary this November. :keeping fingers crossed:

I'm sure a few of you out there saw this 2 years ago at the Cinerama Dome theater where it first debuted and opened the Cinerama Dome to the public back in November 1963.

Off all the films I've seen in their original format ... from Oklahoma in Todd-AO 30fps. ... to "This is Cinerama" ... and so many others .... "Mad World" on the enormous 90 feet foot screen for it's 40th Anniversary was an evening I'll never forget!

Dang! Sigh! Drat! I'll be out there a week too late. I'd love to see a Cinerama movie again. If it was 2001, that would be the best, but I'd certainly take How The West Was Won.

2001: A Space Odyssey was filmed in Super Panavision 70 ( 2.20:1) .. not "Cinerama". For whatever reason though ... it was dubbed "A Cinerama" Feature. The New "Cinerama" for all new features 1963-on ... was Ultra Panavision .. which is 65mm film with an anamorphic squeeze to "squeeze" a wider image than standard 65mm film to 2.76:1.

    From widest to shortest:

Cinerama (3-strip - 2.76:1) "This is Cinerama" thru "How the west was won"
Ultra Panavision/MGMCamera65 (2.76:1) "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World", "Raintree County", "Grand Prix", etc.
Super Panavision 70 (standard 70mm film - 2.20:1) "2001: A Space Odyssey", "My Fair Lady", "Tron", "Black Cauldren", etc.

I "sit" corrected (on the aisle seat, of course). It would still be cool, though.

I showed the DVD of "It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world" to my son a few years ago. I remember seeing it at the drive-in. He got a kick out of it, but got a bit antsy by the time it was done. And he was a bit concerned about some of the violence, like when Jonathan Winters destroys the gas station.

Cinerama helped to "win the west" all over again, in terms of movie audiences. Features like this are true jewels, all the way around.
