OKay the second one worked for me.

All I can say is thank goodness they aren't playing it here.

I do have to wonder if they got permission and if they didn't what sort of recourse if any will happen.

I almost posted that same story earlier today. I think it's a very interesting tactic. Not quite sure if I agree with putting an image like that out there, but I totally agree that it will get people to sit up and pay attention much more than actual images of war and children. So much of the reality is seen on TV daily during newscasts that the general public is desensitzed. Something like this makes them take notice again. At the very least it makes them think and stirs a bit of passion.

That is similar to the stuff Walt Did with his propaganda films and stuff during WW2.

    Tha'ts kinda scary.
Doesn't really make me want to give them money though.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Ok, don't get mad at me, but at first glance it was a bit funny to me:

    Theme song: la la lalalala...BOOM!

But, really, will this ad really make people donate? Can you imagine if they played that here?
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
    Marge: Pink.
    Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

I wasn't sure whether to laugh or be sad either...also had the theme song in my head...gotta give them points for creativity, but yeah, can't imagine this will bring money to them, awareness though.

There are some people who believe no publicity is bad publicity. This here is a prime example of how false that statement is. Sure, it'll bring more people to your site, just like a horrible car accident will draw a crowd, but it's more out of morbid curiosity than a desire to donate. It looks like it should be a SNL skit, rather than a serious ad campaign...

Re: Smurf Village has been bombed in UNICEF PSA. (merged)

We have just heard from Papa Smurf. He has come out with this declaration:

Today, October 11, 2005 -a date which will live in infamy- the forces of the Smurf Republic was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the
air forces of the Empire of Gargamel.

The Republic of Smurfs was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Gargamel, was still in conversation with the Emperor
looking toward the maintenance of peace in the enchanted forest. Indeed, one hour after Gargamelian air squadrons had commenced bombing in Smurf Village, the Gargamelian Ambassador to the Smurfs and his colleague Azrael, delivered to Brainy Smurf a formal reply to a recent Smurfy message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack

It will be recorded that the distance of the Smurf Village from Gargamel’s castle makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time Gargamel has deliberately sought to deceive the Smurfs by false statements and smurfy expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack on the Smurf Village has caused severe damage to
Smurf homes and military forces. Very many smurfy lives have been
lost. In addition Smurfs have been reported being captured in the enchanted forest between the Smurf Village and Gargamel’s castle.

Gargamel has also launched an attack against Gummi Glen.

Today Gargamelian forces attacked Unicorn Glade.

    Today Gargamelian forces attacked Fantasyland.

    Today Gargamelian forces attacked Isenguard.

    Today Gargamelians attacked Fantasy Island.

Today Gargamelian forces attacked our allies on Liliput Island.

Gargamel has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending
throughout the Enchanted Forest. The facts of today speak for
themselves. The surviving smurfy smurfs of the Smurf Republic have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our village, our way of life, and our cartoon series.

As Commander in Chief of the Smurf Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

Always will we remember the character that was drawn against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated
invasion, the smurfy smurs, in their righteous might, will win
    through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of all the creatures in the forest and of the smurfs when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, our village, and our interests in getting a series on Cartoon Network are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces-with the unbounded determination of
our people-we will gain the inevitable triumph-so help us Hannah Barbara.

I ask that the smurfs declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly
attack by Gargamel on Tuesday, October 11th, a state of war has existed
between the Republic of Smurfs and the Empire of Gargamel.
    Growing older is manditory
    Growing up is however, optional
