After the major complaints from the sequel, Steven Spielberg enforced the promise of the return of the core mythology from the Generation 1 animated series, with more character development with the Transformers, and better story telling. With that in mind, Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) takes his first tenuous steps into adulthood while remaining a reluctant human ally of Optimus Prime, like the television series. The film is more of a mystery, Bay says. 'It ties in what we know as history growing up as kids with what really happened." Source: https://michaelbay.com/
Photo below was taken in Los Angeles back in June of the "Go Home" campaign.
The lead human cast:

The new comers to the film but based on Transformers generation 1 & 2 are Silverbolt (the largest of the five Autobot-allied Aerialbots). Below are Gen1 Aerialbots, and the Silverbolt character is in the middle. All together, they transform to become Superion).
Here's video of retro look back at the Aerialbots

Chase (Ferrari 458 Italia), and some new characters dubbed "Einstein" who's a blue 2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 in Earth mode, and the Wreckers...

Megatron (Cybertronian tank & jet - gets a little of make-over after almost being torn apart from Prime)
Starscream (F-22 Raptor), Soundwave (a satellite & Cybertronian jet. Must be noted in Earth mode, his face & chest will resemble the classic Soudwave we all know & love), Laserbeak & Rumble (the 2 loyal decepticons who work in tandem with Soundwave), Shockwave (a second in comand of the Decepticons, Earth mode unkown but in the series he was a laser cannon) *Seen here in the photo below with the cyclops eye, must be noted too, Soundwave's face in robot Earth mode is also seen next to Shockwave's as stand in head poles.
Below is video of the classic Shockwave character...

Devastator (the Earth moving vehicles that are known as the constructicons) as seen in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen climax above are returning.
In addition, another combining decepticon group is said to be in the film. The giveaway, Onslaught (rumored but other sources state that this truck photographed below is Onslaught)...
In the animated series, he was a WW2 troop transport fuel truck, leader of the of the Combaticons, that combined the massive giant robot, Bruticus. They were created by Starscream when he wanted to have his own army.
Who are Onslaught & the Combaticons? They are ...

Rumors - in ()'s state sources.
- Bumblebee and Optimus Prime's designed will be tweaked. Bumblebee to look like he has matured, Prime to appear more heroic. (Transformers 3's Optimus, Bumblebee getting makeovers | Blastr)
- Bumblebee has been updated to a 2011 Chevy Camaro with multiple modifications to the body but not a convertible as previousily rumored. (New Looks at Transformers 3 Bumblebee and Repaint Megan Fox Transformers)
- Film will be released in HD-3D (TRANSFORMERS 3 to be filmed with 3D cameras » GordonandtheWhale.com)
-Transformers 3 will be filmed with real 3D cameras, not post production converted (http://www.collider.com/2010/07/08/p...hia-labeouf/)- Megan Fox was fired from Transformers 3 (Transformers 3 Producer: Replacing Megan Fox Was a Risk - E! Online)
-Transformers 2 set the record for most special effect memory, with over 150 terabytes of disk space on a MAC (which melted a few MAC processors). While the first Transformers took up only 15 terabytes. Compare that to James Cameron 'Avatar' that only took 68 terabytes worth of memory. (http://www.awn.com/articles/profiles...itransformersi). With Transformers 3, ILM has "invested" over 500 terabytes of disk memory!
-Megatron dies in part 3 with the possibility of introduction of Galvatron (TF3: If Megatron dies Galvatron will Arise !!)
This brings us to...
-Unicron, known as the "chaos bringer," Unicron is the most massive and deadly of all Transformers. His goal is to absorb the Universe; planet by planet, solar system by solar system. With each world he devours, he grows in size, strength, energy, knowledge and power. He's also has the power to of change the physical being of a transformer. Those who have the Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen on Blu-ray, writers of the film in a behind the scenes featurette said there's a good chance he'll play a key role in part 3. (Michael Bay's Hidden Transformers 3 Message Teases Unicron). To refresh your memory, here's what Unicron did with Megatron in the original animated film...

No idea for how long or what other locations will occur in the city of Detroit. So, Detroit transformer fans, keep your eyes & cameras ready =)
