Roger Rabbit Sequel in the works
Quote:
MTV talked to
Disney's A Christmas Carol writer/director Robert Zemeckis, who revealed that original
Who Framed Roger Rabbit screenwriters Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman are working on the script for the sequel.
The video of the interview is at: Original Roger Rabbit Writers Working on Sequel - ComingSoon.net
Heres to hopping things move forward after the script is written.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequal in the works
Sounds like these plans are back on again...it is good news if Zemeckis and the original writers are involved, but I'm not getting my hopes up until it's officially announced.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequal in the works
Just don't let Zemekis do the whole film with every body motion captured ala Polar Express
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequal in the works
Zemeckis was asked about how it would be done at Comic Con this year and answered that the sequel would be animated like the original if it ever comes to fruition. (the parts that need to be animated I mean. obviously not the entire thing.) Personally I don't see the need for a sequel myself, but at least that's comforting.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequal in the works
I'd rather see it as a prequel using the book, "Who Discovered Roger Rabbit?" as the basis.

That part is great news... last I heard, he was wanting to do motion capture for it.
Hmm... maybe we'll finally see that never-released third Roger Rabbit book.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequel in the works
This is great news, I hope it comes true!
I was wondering if this would be happening, seeing that Zemeckis is working with Disney on A Christmas Carol and Yellow Submarine.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequel in the works
At one point, the rumor was that it was going to be a musical prequel about Roger Rabbit getting discovered on Broadway...as much as I love Broadway musicals, the idea of toons (inherently part of the world of film) on Broadway doesn't work for me. So I'm glad that it sounds like this is a new concept.
I had an armchair idea for a sequel called "Who Cloned Roger Rabbit", which would take place in the present. Toontown is now tensely divided between hand-drawn and CGI characters, and there is a plot within the Maroon Corporation to replace all the hand-drawn characters with CGI clones (Dipping the originals). Eddie Valiant's grandson would be an up-and-coming VP in the corporation who slowly realizes what's going on.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequel in the works
I wonder if they'll do an Indiana Jones thing and set it in the 60s... After all, the orignal cast has either died or aged by 20 years since the first movie.
Which would take it into the realm of the original book. But also into some interesting territory as the cheaper television toons start taking over. Which could lead it from the racial tensions of human/toon relations of the first movie to racial tensions among toons.
If they do put it in the 60s, I can see a lot less use of the warner characters and a bigger use of Hannah-Barbera.

Zemeckis Confirms That Performance Capture Factors Into The New ROGER RABBIT Film!! But, How?? -- Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I wouldn't use it for the cartoon characters, because I think they should stay two dimensional...I wouldn't dimensionalize Roger.
All the other characters they would have fun with would be magnificent in performance capture technology. It would be really fun.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequel in the works
I have a very bad feeling about this
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequel in the works
I also read somewhere Bob Hoskins wasn't involved. Not good either.
I actually liked the rumored Toon Platoon sequel, but I guess we'll wait and see on this. Parts are exciting, and parts make me nervous of the news revealed so far.
Re: Roger Rabbit Sequel in the works
Hmmm..I love Roger Rabbit. But, not sure about a sequel.
Sometimes...you just have to leave "well enough" alone.

Agreed, leave what is typically "dead and gone" alone. Roger Rabbit is a good movie and somehow I feel a sequel will just totally kill the original
