Re: Your Favorite Movies of 2009

In no particular order: Up, Zombieland, (500) Days of Summer and Star Trek. There's more that I liked, disliked, or just didn't get around to seeing yet, but those are the ones I absolutely LOVED and have already watched multiple times.

Our take on the best and worst films of the year in the local paper (we're the weekly movie critics. I'm Brent)

    Here's a sample - the portion regarding Disney :

Brent: Particularly memorable are the wordless sequence that depicts Carl and Ellie's marriage, and the fantastic image of the house soaring through the sky, suspended by hundreds of multicolored balloons.
The head honchos at Pixar were instrumental in bringing about Disney's return to hand-drawn animation,The Princess and the Frog.

Roberta: I loved it, but I don't know why I'm not dazzled enough to say it's on my top list. Maybe I'm being unfair, because I'm comparing it to the other Disney that captured my heart, and maybe eventually so will this.

Brent: I wouldn't put it on the list of Best Disney Movies of All Time, but it easily lands on my best of the year list. Classic Disney songs were the soundtrack to my childhood, and this score a fresh addition to that tradition. I just start humming these tunes and I'm instantly happy. Animation fans of all ages should give this film a try.

Re: Your Favorite Movies of 2009

    My 2009 Favorites:
    Where The Wild Things Are
X-men Origins (despite Gambit being a somewhat disappointment)
    Coraline
    Transformers 2
    Sherlocke Holmes
    Julie & Julia
    The Princess & The Frog
Night At The Museum - Battle of The Smithsonian

Disappointment 09: Harry Potter & The Half-blood Prince. Being a huge fan of the books, I had a lot of beef with this movie as I felt a ton of extremely critical information and scenes were omitted, not to mention the ending was completely half-baked.

Complete Fail 09: Paranormal Activity. I personally don't understand how people thought this movie was scary - I felt Blair Witch was scarier than this. If anything it was suspenseful, but for me there was absolutely no terror in it whatsoever and did not live up to the hype that all the tv commercials were making it out to be. I went in expecting to be horrified - left having a feeling like "....really?thats it?"

    Looking forward to in 2010:
    How To Train Your Dragon
Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Pt. 1
    Iron Man 2
The Last Airbender (only really to see how much the movie fails at translating the series)
    Tron Legacy
Clash of The Titans (loyal to the original, but curious to see how this turns out)
    Robin Hood

I saw so few movies of 2009. I'd have to go with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I really appreciate how the films have matured the characters so well.

Honorable mention goes to Anvil! The Story of Anvil which was actually released in 2008, but I saw it in '09. It's a surprisingly touching documentary about a hard rock band that's been together for something like 30 years.

Re: Your Favorite Movies of 2009

I really don't see very many movies in the year they're released. My Blockbuster queue is so long, I finally start deleting ones that have made it to cable.

Anyway, these were the ones I did manage to see this year (that I can remember) with my very short reviews:

Up- Loved it! Made me laugh and cry.
New Moon- Hard core Twihard over here...I saw it twice in one day.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- One of the best of the series, IMO.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs- Much better than I expected. I laughed through the entire movie!
He's Just Not that Into You- Thumbs down.
Star Trek- As a Star Wars nerd, I didn't think I'd "get" it. As a JJ Abrams fan, I had faith. So glad I decided to jump in. Loved it!
Adventureland- Quirky fun. Too bad Kristen Stewart was in it.

Adventureland- I apparently hate Kristen Stewart.
I KNOW I hate Kristen Stewart, but I did like both of these movies. They would have been WAY better with a different actress. Someone who has more than one facial expression, maybe.

That's how I felt at first, but I'm hoping they're going to add some of that info to the next movie and may be partly why it's going to take 2 films.

Found this on another site I frequent. It makes 2009 look like it was a pretty decent year for movies after all.

New Moon was my watch for the year and it did not disappoint. I don't see movies all that often.
