Thumbs up New King Kong Tailer!

There's a new trailer out for the new Peter Jackson version of King Kong, and it looks SPECTACULAR! The special effects are amazing. There's no doubt that this will be one hell of a movie:

I'm sure Universal's still glad it got rid of confrontation now huh?

Cool Re: New King Kong Tailer!

Looks very promising. I hope this is another winner for Jackson.

A few days ago I read an piece in The NY Times about Universal Execs finally seeing the finished film recently and they agreed with Jackson to maintain its 3 hour running time.

Theater owners really don't like films that run that long since there are fewer showings possible each day. Universal also is very pleased with the result according to the report.

Is this how lame hollywood is these days? I mean the special effects may be good and all, but perhaps it is time to just stop making remakes and sequels of things that were once successful.

    Yes, but...

the technology has changed soooooo much between the claymation of the original Kong, and today's CGI.

While many remakes are indeed of films that should just be hands off from the get-go (the new "Pink Panther" springs to mind, since I cannot fathom anyone cast as Clouseau other than Peter Sellers), this one was simply BEGGING for the right director, right cast, and right post-production team to bring it into the 21st century.

Unlike that gawd-awful Jessica Lange remake, I feel that Jackson is simply retelling the original story with newer technology. This feels like a perfect fit. I predict a strong box office debut, and strong video sales.

    ^ Agreed.

I'm actually very excited for Kong after seeing this latest trailer.

Peter Jackson is a master storyteller (I even liked Frighteners).

I agree with bluesky. Not to mention the fact that PJ has a true love and respect for Kong. He's actually been trying to get this film made since before Rings, but wasn't given the opportunity. This is his dream project. He even contributed to the stellar new DVD release of the original. A situation like this, in my opinion, is less about doing a remake for a quick buck and more about retelling a great story for a new generation. Seriously, how many people watch the original other than movie buffs? (and yes, let's erase that hideous 70's version from existense)

Ohj wait, Peter Jackson is the guy who directed LOTR right? This film might be more interesting than I thought now.
