Mother asks family to give up Disney for a year.

Lisa Ray had been fed up with Disney for some time. She didn’ t like the message her girls were getting about looks and the importance of finding a rich prince. She has never been a fan of media consolidation.

And after the year is over what exactly does she think she will prove or accomplish. Also will she "punish" her family if the boycott is broken, what about when her husband gives in and watches the football game on ABC?

I don't think it's that ridiculous. She wants to make a statement. How come it's OK for Disney to spend millions on publicity, but not OK for someone with an opposing view to go out and get attention for it. And she is making a very valid point about how Disney is EVERYWHERE and it's difficult to just "drop" them. I say, good for her if that's what she wants to do. It's just funny that it becomes a "news story" when someone wants to disengage from a media conglomerate. They ARE kind of taking over the world, and it IS a little scary.

A customer saying "no" to that particular media conglomerate is big news -- when the newspaper that covered the story is located in a state where said media conglomerate has the muscle of King Kong.

Why is she getting upset about good Disney stuff?
She should be mad at the stuff on Disney Channel, talk about horrible.
Plus, you can't boycott Disney. They are one of the largest companies in the world, with about 7 resorts, about 5 tv channels, and tons of merchandise. You would never be able to stop that.
It's sad people are that stupid, I'd like to see her try to do anything against Disney.

Of course you can. Doesn't mean Disney will change anything, but if enough people decide to join her, they just might.

Well, for one, equating boycotting with "stopping" something indicates a fundamental inability to comprehend what boycotts are designed to do.

This woman isn't trying to drive Disney out of business entirely.

Also, since when is size important? I seem to remember 13 colonies back in the 1700s boycotting England, which was much economically and militarily more powerful. Did that stop them?

No, what's sad (and stupid) is that you don't understand what media consolidation is and how it's not as positive a thing as the giant corporations would like you to believe. What's sad (and stupid) is that you'll believe whatever the giant corporations tell you is good, or bad, or right & wrong, or popular or not popular, and you'll do whatever they want you to do, like a good little sheep, an obedient little puppet, a consumer who never questions anything he's consuming. If Disney sold poop that tasted like cotton candy, you'd gobble it up and ask for seconds. That's what's sad (and stupid).

    She already has.

Disney is not some Mafia organization that ordinary people cannot speak out against. Nobody is forced to purchase their products or view their visual entertainment, nor should they be.

But, apparently, Disney makes you so happy with its "magical" hogwash that you'll go to war against anyone who speaks against the mouse you worship. Well, isn't that just precious?

well, since you asked nicely, no. *dose a dramatic pose*
Disney is my life and blood and i shall not abandon it for such a pointless cause!
    *dose a different dramatic pose*
that would mean no kingdom hearts, no parks, no modern family!!
    with that said,

I agree with others that have posted: Why throw out the good with the bad?

The old saying comes to mind: Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

If Disey does something right, then give them their due credit. Encourage Disney to continue on those paths. Likewise, the stuff she doesn't like, she doesn't have to buy or endorse.
