    Re: 2010 Golden Ticket Awards

So, evidentlly they only give awards to "Amusement Parks" and not "Themed Parks"? Or do "they" consider them ALL as amusement parks?

Saying that "Harry Potter" is the best "Amusement Park" attractiion could be considered an insult, as i'm sure Universal would consider "Harry Potter" a Theme Park attraction, not simply an amusement park ride.

    Edit to add:

Looked further at their list for "Best New Ride for 2010 (Amusement Park)" and how the voting turned out:

    24% Harry Potter
    21% Intimidator 305 (steel coaster)
    20% Sky rocket (steel coaster)
    14% Intimidator (steel coaster)
(other attractions less than 5% each)

So, out of all the votes cast for the "BEST New Ride", at leaslt 55% were cast for basic thrill ride roller coasters. Whereas the highly detailed and extensively themed Harry Potter attraction, with more creativity than any of the other candidates combined, only managed to get LESS than a quarter of the votes in this category????? Clearly, Harry Potter is unlike any of those other attractions, but more than half of the people "QUALIFIED??????" to vote in this poll decided that a roller coasters in general are "Better" than Harry Potter?

Who the HECK do they think they are trying to kid, with those kind of results?

other comments: Ripsaw Falls is better than Splash Mt? Really????

Harry Potter only ranks 4th on the overall best dark ride list?????
Tower of Terror at WDW ranks at #2 Dark Ride??????? (no way should it be that high)
Haunted House at Knoebels raks at #3 Dark Ride??????? who the HECK are they kidding, it shouldn't even be on the top 25 list.

    BEST OUTDOOR Night Show Production

40% EPCOT - Really? EPCOT's night show is that much better than WoC in DCA????
17% DCA - World of Color
15% 6 Flags Fiesta Texas San Antonio
    11% Disneyland F!
    7% Disney Hollywood Studio F!

Really, overall, those numbers just show that they should just stick to rating regular unthemed coasters, rather then pretending that they can honestly rate highly themed shows and attractions. And as for theme attempting to rank attractions and parks outside of the US, well that is just laughable. They shouldn't even attempt to rank parks outside the US. And really, they try to rank parks as "Kid Friendliest"??

Golden ticket is only good for rating high adrenaline unthemed rides, in the US.

Someone else should be ranking Family Themed Parks and attractions.

    Re: 2010 Golden Ticket Awards

Well, the award is for the ride "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey". And anybody is able to vote for these awards. It does seem like the same parks/rides win every year, and people will generally complain about it. Yet when asked if they voted, the people say no.

My only big gripe is with the food. Knoebels has AMAZING food. Like incredible food. Disneyland WISHES they had as good of food as Knoebels. But ... it's "Amusement Park" food. It's AMAZING Amusement park food, but it's still amusement park food. EPCOT on the other hand is just awesome food ... period. It needs it's own category.

    Re: 2010 Golden Ticket Awards

But for the "Golden Ticket" to have so much "experience", you would think that they would EASILY realize that Harry Potter type attractions don't belong in the same category as unthemed coasters. It doesn't even take an expert to see that.

And obviously, they should be making distinctions between Thrill Rides, and Themed attractions. Heck they make a half baked attempt at separating "Kid's Parks" from other parks. And they even specifically say "Amusement" in some of their Golden Ticket Categories, and not in others. If they want people to participate, then THEY need to have different categories for "regular coasters" compared to "themed" rides and attractions.

    Re: 2010 Golden Ticket Awards

Most votes are for East Coast parks and rides where those folks generally only attend. Recalling the highest attended parks report earlier this year, it was all Disney. Even Knott's had higher attendance than USO, USH. These GTA are heavily biased towards East Coast parks and amusement parks, not theme parks.

But then again, I am Disney biased! ;-)

These golden ticket awards are ridiculous and heavily biased. Last year I went to Knoebles and was expecting something more than a carnival... While it was very reasonably priced the food I had was "Meh" sure it beat a corn dog or a gross hamburger but to think it is even in the same LEAGUE of Epcot/Disney is laughable.

They also favor Universal a little to much... I have eaten at the Golden Ticcket Wining Mythos restaurant at IOA twice... Give me a break... I'll take anything at Epcot over that place. While perfectly pleasant for Universal, Disney is lightyears ahead.

Most people don't make a distinction between "theme parks" and "amusement parks"a and use the terms interchangeably and so don't really make a huge distinction between theme park attractions and amusement park attractions. Not that many new themed rides open each year so it makes sense just to lump them in one general best ride category. And believe me, there are plenty of people who would rather ride a 300 foot roller coaster than a Harry Potter dark ride.
