MIA Walt movies now on Amazon download!

I don't know how long these have been up but Amazon now has a whole lot of classic Walt Disney era movies for "rental" download including such not-on-DVD rarities as The Sword and Rose, The Prince and the Pauper, The Sign of Zorro and The Best of Disney's True Life Adventures for 1.99.

From the trailers, they don't look remastered from the last appearances on VHS. One has to worry about the condition of the negatives if this is their future.

I still wish they'd offer DVD-on-demand for purchase as well -- but at least they can be seen somewhere in the meantime.

No problem - - I also spotted a lot of Walt's films previously only available as Disney Movie Club Exclusives like The Monkey's Uncle, Kidnapped, The Fighting Prince of Donegal, Tonka, Rob Roy, etc.

    >>so any reviews of these movies?<<

Like any film library, each title has its own merits, though the consistency of Walt Disney's storytelling and thematic vision envelops all.

A great resource for detailed reviews of Walt's movies is Leonard Maltin's invaluable book, "The Disney Films" as well as the capsule reviews in his Movie Guide, which also includes the overseas theatrical releases first shown in the USA on "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color."

Of those listed and seldom seen or offered, I highly recommend Walt Disney's "The Prince and the Pauper" which is one of the best screen tellings of the Mark Twain classic (and much better than the later Mickey Mouse animated featurette). Though it needs some restoration love.

I just wish these were on DVD and Blu-Ray, as watching on a tiny computer screen is a simply a diminished entertainment experience that does not do justice to the fine work of Walt's onetime legendary studio.
