    Rumor! Glen Keane leaving Walt Disney Animation Studios!!!

    Blue Sky Disney is reporting that famed Disney Legend Glen Keane is being wooed by Jeffrey Katzenberg and DWA to come over and head animated films at the competition. No decision has been made, but Glen is seriously considering it.

    Horrible news, if it pans out.

    Glen Keane is not someone they want to lose. At any cost. Period.

    Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

    :::shakes head:::

    You don't read follow-up stories do you? The LA Times article about Fairy Tales was in error.

    Yeah the LA Times got something wrong with their story,

    But, it did sound like Lasseter did shake things up a little with Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, Princess and the Frog, and Tangled. Not that shake ups aren't unheard of , but changing Rapunzel from more traditional animation to all CGI was a pretty big shake up. Wasn't Keane strong armed to go all CGI with Tangled? It didn't sound like it was exactly smooth sailing for Keane. Didn't Tangled get a change of songwriter, too? (I know Pricess and Frog was originally surpose to be Menken, but was changed to Randy Neuman.) So it could be possible that Keane is looking around, especially with how successful Tangled turned out, and the success that he has brought Disney. And if nothing else, it may just be a way to get more "credit" for his talents regardless of where he works in the future. (read that as negotiating for a higher salary at Disney)

    Keane had a health issue that kept him from being director of Tangled but I think ultimately he was satisfied with the result.

    ^ Please add a RUMOR flag to this thread

    Mr. Keane, currently in his 37th year at WDAS, did suffer a very serious health issue that prevented him from continuing on as co-director of a former version of what became 'Tangled'. When he did return to the studio he contributed, among many things, the design of the titular character inspired by his own daughter WDAS Visual Development artist Claire Keane and his then-newly born granddaughter was the model for baby Rapunzel.

    He's enjoying his much-deserved time off, he recently had his first solo exhibition of his personal and professional work in Paris. For a man who isn't comfortable animating on computers to jump to a studio completely emeshed in animation technology seems like an ill fit. Running a division would certainly be an immense strain physically as well. I hope he continues to grace WDAS with his talent and inspiration.
