Re: Actor Pat Morita died yesterday...

Yes,yes he was. I remember one year on New Year's Eve..I think I was probably in like..I dunno..7th..maybe 8th grade. My parents left me home to babysit my brother and there was a comedy special on TV which feature Pat Morita. I don't think I'd ever laughed so hard as I did when he was performing. He was very, very funny.

Yup. The world has lost another clown.

    The Clown's Prayer

As I stumble through this life,
help me to create more laughter than tears,
    dispense more cheer than gloom,
    spread more cheer than despair.
Never let me become so indifferent,
that I will fail to see the wonders in the eyes of a child,
or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.

Never let me forget that my total effort is to cheer people,
make them happy, and forget momentarily,
all the unpleasantness in their lives.

    And in my final moment,
    may I hear You whisper:
"When you made My people smile,
    you made Me smile."

Happy Days and The Karate Kid movie series each were vehicles for the respected unique
entertainer to bring warmth and laughter to millions. You will be sorely missed, Pat. I can't help but reflect back on that little bonsai tree and the positive symbolism behind it
    pertaining to life.

As a special salute, here are some of my favorite Morita movie quotes:
Daniel: You could have killed him, couldn't you?
    Mr. Miyagi: Aiy.
    Daniel: Well, Why didn't you?
Mr. Miyagi: Because Daniel, for man with no forgiveness in heart, life worse punishment than death.
[Walking through the Okinawa airport, Daniel and Miyagi find a poster
advertising Sato's karate school. The poster shows Sato breaking a
    log with his bare hands.]
Daniel: You think you could break a log like that?
Miyagi: Don't know. Never been attacked by a tree.

Miyagi: Karate come from China, sixteenth century, called te, "hand." Hundred year later, Miyagi ancestor bring to Okinawa, call *kara*-te, "empty hand."
Daniel Larusso: I thought it came from Buddhist temples and stuff like that.
    Miyagi: You too much TV.

Until we watched it together on cable late one night, my DH had never seen Karate Kid. I was like ZOMG! How can you NOT have seen this movie?

Interesting, since I read in the LA Times that he knew nothing of Karate before taking the role. He's just a brilliant actor.

I was so surprised when I saw this news. Pat Morita was great in Happy Days, Karate Kid and the Mystery Files of Shelby Wu. Rest in Peace
