Re: First Look at Brave
I had the chance to see 'Cars 2' again this morning along with the glorious 1st teaser trailer for 'Brave'.
It is a lush, beautiful and meancing world that they've created. It's opening reminds one very much, in a good way, of 'How To Train your Dragon'. The voiceover and scenary just puts you in that familiar place but then gallops off to a whole new realm.
And PIXAR - huge thanks for a gorgeous new heroine to root for. CAN NOT WAIT to see more!

Yeah, I think that's kind of a blatant rip-off if you can only see the trailer for Brave in the 3D showings. 3D adds absolutely nothing to these movies and the studios are only looking for people to pay the premium charge to see them.
This is worse than the blatant cash grab that was Cars 2 in the first place.
However, I am glad to see that 3D grosses for Cars 2 weren't anywhere near as high as the studio wanted them to be, only accounting for about 35% of this weekends gross.
Cars 2's run featured the 3D illusion at 2,508 locations, which accounted for 40 percent of the gross (including 150 IMAX screens that contributed five percent). The 3D share was even less than what Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Green Lantern posted in their unenthusiastic 3D debuts. For perspective, Toy Story 3's 3D share was 60 percent (with 2,463 3D venues), while Up's was 52 percent (with only 1,534 3D venues).
So over 1/2 of the locations had 3D showings (4115 total locations, 2508 being 3D) yet 3D only had 35%.
Hopefully we are seeing this trend coming to an end.
I used to be HUGE into seeing the 3D version, if it was available. But you know what? I'm sick and tired of paying more money for something that really adds nothing in the end. So I'm going back to 2D, unless there's an amazing 3D movie made, or if I'm with a group of friends that wants to see it in 3D.
Let's return to focusing on good storytelling instead of "Oooh!! Look!! It's in 3D!!". Big whoop.

Well you knew the trailer would be coming soon.. and it was posted less then 2 days later. I'd consider it a 'teaser' to see the 3D.. vs a rip-off. It wasn't going to be held back from everywhere else... just a matter of who/where first..
Saw the 3D version (we had free tickets that's the only reason!) and it was ok. Very very dark and ominous. i didn't like that. We'll see what the actual trailer reveals.
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
When I first read about it I was afraid it would be as bad as Tangled, but seeing the trailer now, it does look like it may be a decent movie. Kind of different than what I would expect from Pixar, though. Pixar usually has unique twists and perspectives, movies from the life of a bug, toy, car, etc., but then again UP was different from that usual mold and it was good, so I think this one may be good, too.
ETA: I don't want to waste an off-topic post, but I did see Tangled. I've seen the Disney classic fairytales, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and those, and Tangled didn't come close in my opinion. It didn't have that same spark or story structure, I feel the same way about Princess and the Frog.

Did you even see Tangled? Or do you think it sucks because of the misleading marketing campaign? Seriously I thought Tangled was the closest thing to a Classic Disney movie while being fresh and new at the same time. Back on topic, I think Brave looks really awesome and I look forward to seeing it.
ORWEN: Well, I have to say that this newest princess is one of the least pretty of all the other Disney princesses in a long line of Disney heroines. I mean, that big fat face!! That unruly red hair! Yuck!
ORGOCH: Well, if'n that ain't the cauldron callin' the kettle black!!! Ever take a look in the mirror of yer own dang self, sister? I mean, that big fat face! That unruly red hair!! Double YUCK!!!
ORDDU: But you have to admit--as someone on another web footed sight said--that this newest princess DOES come across like an angry cabbage patch doll come to life...
