Jason Segel, Amy Adams Present 'Muppets' at CinemaCon - The Hollywood ReporterLAS VEGAS -- The parade of studio presentations continued at CinemaCon on Tuesday afternoon, with Disney showing exhibitors extended footage of high-profile summer tentpoles Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Pixar's Cars 2 as well as a sizzle reel of The Avengers.
So far, theater owners have been impressed with much of what they've seen from the studios. Disney, DreamWorks and Paramount have all presented their upcoming slates, with Sony, Lionsgate and Warner Bros. left to go
In regards to Disney, exhibitors believe Pirates (May 20) and Cars 2 (June 24) are sure bets. Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall talked to theater owners about the film before the footage rolled. Larry the Cable Guy took the stage to plug Cars 2, in which he reprises the voice role of Mater. He got plenty of laughs when saying he's the only actor to gain 70 pounds for a voice role.
Disney also impressed with footage from Thanksgiving family film The Muppets, starring the iconic puppets. Jason Segel, who produces and stars in the movie, co-wrote the script.
Segel and co-star Amy Adams introduced the footage. Segel explained to exhibitors that he's loved The Muppets since he was a kid, and that they were his first comedic influence.
There will be four new musical acts in the movie, according to Adams and Segel. Also, a new Muppet will be introduced who is the roommate of Segel's character.
In the film, Segel and Adams' characters endeavor to reunite the Muppets, who are scattered all over the world, including Paris, where Miss Piggy resides.
Disney also touted upcoming summer kids pic Winnie the Pooh (July 15).
