Saw it this evening to light crowds. Cars 2 definitely suffers in the same way the first one did as far as pacing goes. It definitely takes its time before we get rollin' with the plot. I think most sequels would just pick up where the first one did, but this one spent a lot of time reintroducing everything and everyone.. almost lip service to those who missed the first.

Despite all that, I enjoyed the flik. It's fun and inventive although the thing about Dinosaurs makes me wonder. They shoulda made them dinocars. Come to think of it.. dinoco makes no sense neither... even though it's more of an inside joke.

Favorite characters of the new film are Acer and Grem.

Currently, I still prefer the first film but that doesn't mean I won't be watching Cars 2 a million times when it finally comes out on Blu-Ray.

    I give this 3 stars.

Awesome detail of the firey oil platforms, global cityscapes and nature landscapes. I loved all of that, would see it again just for the scenery. In that way I felt Pixar outdid itself in raising the bar for computer animation, perhaps in honor of their 25th anniversary celebration.

The characters & story were fun too. Lots of action. Something for everyone. It has to be difficult creating car facial expressions, and they pulled it off. The eyes were amusing to watch!

Lasseter intended to take the kicks beyond Route 66 this time, yet we got a refresher on Radiator Springs and what awaits us in DCA's Carsland.

What hidden humor did you see? For example, one of the race ads said "Lassetyre."

John Lassetyre is actually a character in Cars 2 and I suspect they'll make a toy of him. I believe he's Jeff Gorvette's crew chief.

Other bits I found were the usual A113 everywhere and Gastow's restaurant in Paris. Dunno if the Pizza Planet Truck makes a reappearance. I'll need to watch again.

In the end credits you see the Emeryville Campus on the map.

I saw it once but J.L. has said in interviews that it's in the film twice, he's also said that there is a reference to 'Brave' somewhere in it too...good catch on the map!

RT is tracking this as "Rotten." I think I'll wait for the discounted DVD.

You might have to wait awhile. Like Star Wars, you'll never see it discounted because regardless of what RT says it is, it's a winner with the general audiences.

It eluded me but apparently the Pizza Planet Truck may be seen in two scenes - the Mel Dorado talk show scene and then the Radiator Springs at the end.

My favorite moments... Mater asking for his "free" pistachio ice cream.

And so far my favorite line:
"Instead of saying ka-chow, Lightning McQueen is gonna go ka-boom!" I'm paraphrasing but you know the line.

Has anyone seen the movie in 3D or is it only shown in 2D?

I've seen both, the 2D version is terrific (as is the 3D). Plus the 1st teaser trailer for the upcoming 'Brave' runs with the 3D presentations.

I saw it in 3D as well. It really was pretty impressive. NNL thought the same and she usually doesn't feel that way about 3D movies.

Also, seeing the Brave preview was great too.

    Cars 2 Movie Review (SPOILERS!!)

Hey all, DM here again. So i saw the Cars 2 midnight premiere a few nights back, and i gotta say...it was another Pixar success (forget those critics)! The attention to detail and story was so well done as done in the first film. The one thing that had my friends and the whole theatre kinda shaky was seeing cars being killed, drowned, or nearly killed (i.e. a certain tow truck). But, I kept one movie in my mind whenever this happened: The Incredibles. I mean, there hasn't been this much violence in a Disney-Pixar movie since then. When critics say that the violence was a major part of the movie's flop, I keep remembering the 2004 film, saying "Go back to the earlier days of Pixar films!" Anyways, I believe that Cars 2 had as much quality as the original, and that they did the right thing for Doc Hudson as they did for the toys in Toy Story 3. But the two things that kept the story moving was its message about friendship, mostly between Mater and McQueen. Along with the fact that Mater had been heartbroken about being called a fool, an idiot, etc. That's where, to me, the story got better. Anyways, if you plan to see Cars 2, leave the criticism of the critics behind and bring the excitement for this sequel with you instead!
