    Fantastic 4 Two

    Dec. 05, 2005

    Fox fires up 'Fantastic' sequel

20th Century Fox is set for another "Fantastic" voyage. The studio confirmed months of speculation that it would bring its summer boxoffice hit "Fantastic Four" back for a second installment. Director Tim Story and scribe Mark Frost have signed on for the sequel, which is set for a July 4, 2007, release. The first installment, which grossed more than $154 million domestically, also had been slated for July 4 weekend bow but switched to July 8 to avoid a head-to-head clash with "War of the Worlds." The move paid off as the Marvel comic book-based tale earned $56 million in its opening take. This time around, "Fantastic Four" will be facing a formidable superhero foe in "Spider-Man 3," which opens in May 2007. (Tatiana Siegel)

Obviously the standards for "boxoffice hit" have been lowered. Quite a bit.

I'm raising the bar here- he must be more naked than he was in the first one.

Worst idea for a sequal since Richard Pryor was in the last Superman film. Now F4...the first one was horrid.

Oh, I dunno...I kinda liked it. Not the best story or acting, but overall it wasn't too bad.

Maybe this will be the rare instance where the sequel will be better than the first?

As long as that same rule applies to the divine Miss Alba, I'm in!

Nekkid hotness is what this franchise definitely needs anyway!

I actually liked F4. I liked that they went more Comic Book than trying to bring Comic Book characters into the real world.

It worked GREAT for Batman Begins but most times Comic Book characters in the "Real World" settings don't work for me. (See Daredevil and Elektra).

You obviously have never read a single issue of Fantastic Four... the chracters looked and acted nothing like there comic book counterparts, except for Thing.

*Chris Evans- Torch- right attitude wrong look
*Jessica Alba -hottie but not a real blondie
*Ian G (whatever his last name is) Umm a Brit to play an American, ok?!?
*The Nip Tuck guy to play a foreign dictator, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Basically everything was wrong with the first one, it was soooo far from the comics it could have been called the Incredibles Live Action film in Blue.

The plot was lauaghable, Dr. Doom as the fifth Beatle? Ok, decent idea horriably executed. These four freaks were immediatly accepted in the same universe where mutant X-men are rejected, umm ok?

^^ I didn't say they went more LIKE the comic book ... I said they went comic book as it really didn't take itself that seriously.

I was/am a HUGE fan of Fantastic Four comics. Along with X-men they were my favorite. All I'm saying is I'm not upset with the direction they took it. It was ALOT more kid-friendly than alot of other recent comic book movies, which IMO is a good thing.

Source: Just Jared, Latino Review, Variety
    January 30, 2006

Meanwhile, Latino Review caught up with Fantastic Four director Tim Story, who revealed that shooting for the sequel starts on August 1st in Vancouver and that villain Doom will be back. It is not known whether or not that means Julian McMahon, who played the character in the first film, will be back as well. Story also said Kerry Washington will have a bigger role as Alicia Masters.

    Re: Fantastic 4 Two

I use to be heavy into the comic book and I don't think Comic fans are being very fair when they say the movie was awful. Keep in mind they have been trying to make this film for a very long time.

I don't see anything wrong with trying ot make a comic book movie fun. What With the last Spiderman and Batman movie so dark and depressing, it's nice to see more humor in a movie like this. I mean, your talkign about a guy who can stretch his body, and a guy who get enveloped in flame. And maybe they don't have the perfect look as the "drawn" characters but you're not going to make it look exact. And Hollywood is going to cater to where the money is, not the comic book readers. They are not necessarily going to pick someone comic fans want, they are going to pick actors that will help draw in crowds and make money. So a british guy playing an American? I don't see the problem as long as he plays and American. Heck, I don't hear anyone complaining that Pacino played a cuban, or that Collin Ferrel plays John Smith when he's Irish.

But please don't think I'm on anyone's case. It's your opinions, and I respect them. Our opinions just differ.
