Ridley Scott is working on a possible prequel or sequel to his classic film Blade Runner.
Depending on which idea is a better.

After revisiting his classic Alien with the upcoming 3D Fox film Prometheus, Ridley Scott is committing to direct and produce a film that advances his other seminal and groundbreaking science fiction film. Scott has signed on to direct and produce a new installment of Blade Runner.

What you saw are the various cuts of Blade Runner.

the U.S. theatrical version (1982, 116 minutes)
the International Cut (1982, 117 minutes)
The Ridley Scott-approved (1991, 116 minutes) Director's Cut
Ridley Scott's The Final Cut (2007, 117 minutes), or the "25th Anniversary Edition"

There are actually seven different edits of the film.

This film will be a whole new story taking place either before or after the original Blade Runner story timeline.

This is not a remake of the original film.

I actually heard about this project already awhile back. It was mentioned on some behind the scenes video, either on the DVD or on Youtube.
