    Re: King Kong Opens today!

I saw the movie on opening day (Wednesday) AND i WENT IN WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS, being a fan of the 1933 classic. Overall I enjoyed the movie, but certain aspects of it annoyed me, especially Carl Denham and his blank stares into nothing. The bronto scene was too far fetched. I feel that none of those sailors should have lived through that encounter, even the main stars. My fav scene was the battle between Kong and the T-rexes. But, in the long run, the 1933 version will always be my favorite.

It is also amazing that Jack Driscoll was a sailor in the original and then a whimpy playwright in the newer version. And then there is that kid, Jimmy, his character had nothing to do with the story line. I would rate this movie a 7-10.

    KING KONG--- Where is everybody???

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,178983,00.html

Critics LOVE it, Audiences (That go) RAVE about it, but no one is going!!!
    Why is that?

What's happened? Peter Jackson's "King Kong" a three-hour, $300 million extravaganza that wowed advance screening audiences is a catastrophe in the making.
On Thursday, Kong's take was a measly $6,295,755 off $35.5 from Wednesday's weak $9,755,745 opening day. Kong ranks now as the 21st best Wednesday opening ever a dubious distinction.

I agree, I havn't gone yet, but will.
it's a week before Christmas, most anyone dealing with going out at night is shopping...

I really hope this one goes well for Peter Jacksons sake, this is afterall the movie that made him want to make movies, it's his "baby" so to speak... and I for one can not wait!!!

I have no desire to see it...I seem to remember seeing the older version and the ending was very sad.

Honestly, this release would have fared better in the summer. People are looking for more family friendly offerings during the holidays. I have seen it and enjoyed, but it is definitely not for young children. It will be interesting to see how it compares with Narnia this weekend.

I always knew the movie was going to be good....but for some reason I got the feeling that box office numbers weren't going to be really extraordinary. Just have to play the waiting game and see what happens.

Also, I was looking forward to a friday opening...it wasnt until about Tuesday that I said to myself....waaaaiittt, the 14th is tomorrow. I think a Wednesday opening was a bad idea for this movie.

You mean an incredibly sexy intellectual, thoughtful writer who just happens to be deliciously cut.

Ok, my thoughts on the movie. I thought it was really good, beautifully made film and the length doesn't really come into play, but I agree the first act went a little long.

    Spoiler

I agree with the others that Jimmy was an annoying add on, all that build up and we never find out anything about his backstory or what happens to him once they get back to NY. Also, I agree with Tui, the slow shots of the skulls and things just didn't fit with the movie for me.

I just saw this over the weekened and thought the cinematography is fantastic. They really do a great job making everything looks so real. I put my whole review on my site if you're curious:

Basically I thought it was really good and worth seeing once. I just thought it was too long and Peter Jackson over does it in some scenes.

OMG. Your post just made me yell upstairs, "Kell!!! Let's go see King Kong NOW!!"

I freaking loooove Adrien Brody. I think he's one of the sexiest guys out there. Everyone else thinks I'm nuts. I see those eyes, those lips, that nose and I'm freaking MUSH. He's sex on a stick to me. I was so excited that he was going to be in the movie.

So.....now I'm logging off and we're heading out. The power of a single post.

And yes....we're taking the kids, whether they care to see it or not!!

Took a quick look, to help ensure you are taken as seriously as possible with industry-related topics I would suggest spell checking the names of the film's stars. For example and in reality, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz star in next year's, Bandidas. Hope this helps.
