Great movie! Definately a must see. I was really surprised there was only one family in the theatre, aside from my brother and me. Annoying bastards, I actually had to "shhhh" them, thankfully they listened.
But yeah, overall I loved it, probably 9 out of 10. The only negative things in the movie were very minute. There were some character development things we could have done without. Example being, the ships crew, it concentrated on some of them specifically, and I really couldn't have cared less.
Special effects were awesome, and you need the big screen to fully appreciate it. I also liked how there really wasn't a lot of talking in the movie. Only at the beginning, but as the movie got going there wasn't a lot at all. And it made for a very good movie, nothing is worse than a movie that is all talking, no action, and vice versa. This movie found the perfect balance of the two.
My favorite scene by far is the Empire State Building finale. It looked so cool , and I actually felt my slight fear of heights kick in, and I really haven't had that happen in a movie before. The scene alone is a perfect topper to the movie, and is worth the price of admission alone, in my opinion....
Saw it this morning. Great film! Loved how Jackson filled in some "plot holes" from the original, and tied everything together. Especially loved the little tribute to the original's writer/director, Merian C Cooper, and leading lady, Fay Wray, early in the film.
The action sequences on the island were such an adrenaline rush. Rarely do I ever "cringe" in a theatre seat, overempathizing with the dangers on the screen. But this time? Caught myself holding my breath, several times. And I agree with Tui about the Empire State Building finale. Wow! It does induce acrophobia!
But the best part of all, was Andy Serkis' performance as Kong. O-M-G... such an amazing range of emotion he could put across in a MoCap ping pong ball suit! The dude needs an Academy Award nomination for this.

You'll love it!!! The display cases have very cool WETA creature sculptures (that V-Rex is scary even small!) and the main lobby was full of boys waiting to play the KONG video games.
(The Da Vinci Code trailer received great response by the way...)
This is definitely the theatre to see it in - make the trip if you can!
The film is dazzling, spectacular and very moving. Peter Jackson again marries huge, epic action scenes with touching and intimate moments that matter and linger with you just as he did in the LOTR trilogy. The stampede scene brought stunned tears to my eyes - amazing!
Adrien Brody would have made for a legendary silent film star, so expressive and Naomi Watts surpasses herself and continues to shatter expectations. It's a great cast and Andy Serkis is an invaluable part of this achievement.
