    I was seduced by CASANOVA!

Saw the film tonight, it was so truly delightful! Funny, funny, funny!
Amazing cast led by Heath Ledger as Casanova, Sienna Miller (fully-clothed for once in a major motion picture...), the glorious Jeremy Irons (part Judge Frollo/part Scar), hilarious Oliver Platt (his "Farewell Simpletons!" a joy to behold) and the always radiant Lena Olin (Mrs. Lasse Hallstrom, the film's director). Filmed in Venice to great effect, particularly one great and inspired gondola shot not to be missed!
It's all a bit As You Like It, a bit of Shakespeare In Love and with even a Zorro-esque flair. Fast moving and with wonderful dialogue, well-endowed with actual wit and romance as well. Beautiful costumes & wigs, spectacular locations interiors and exteriors with fanciful special effects and stunts (loved the swordplay!) all in full display.

What a year for Heath Ledger!
    Casanova from Touchstone Pictures
opens Christmas Day. The film is rated R

Re: I was seduced by CASANOVA!

'Casanova' delivers a charming, bawdy romp
    By Claudia Puig, USA TODAY

This is clearly Heath Ledger's month. Heck, it may even be the 26-year-old Australian actor's year.
Casanova (Heath Ledger) falls for Francesca (Sienna Miller) in 18th-century Venice.Touchstone Pictures

After his revelatory, pitch-perfect performance as a tormented gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain, his lighter, dashing side emerges as the notorious womanizer in Casanova. Where Brokeback's Ennis was a terse and laconic loner, Casanova is a glib and charming 18th-century party animal. Ledger swaggers, seduces and smoothly bandies witticisms with as much confidence and verve as the veteran actors -Jeremy Irons, Lena Olin, Oliver Platt who make up the rest of the talented cast.
Casanova is an entertaining if silly romp, with amusing dialogue, gorgeous production design and painterly cinematography. Venice, where the movie is set, has never been so breathtaking.

Casanova is famous throughout Venice, yet few who are not his conquests know what he looks like, which allows him to assume several identities. The wily seducer is so irresistible that women chase him with abandon. The moralistic Chief Inquisitor (Irons) warns an admirer of "eternal damnation for one night with Casanova." She burbles, "Seems fair."

    About the movieCasanova
    * * * (out of four)
Stars: Heath Ledger, Jeremy Irons, Oliver Platt, Sienna Miller
    Director: Lasse Hallstrom
    Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures
Rating: R for some sexual content
Running time: 1 hour, 48 minutes
    Opens Sunday in select cities

Because of his lusty appetite and heretical ways, Casanova is pursued with a vengeance by the Inquisitor but protected by Venice's Doge (Tim McInerny).
To escape arrest, he is advised to marry.
Meanwhile, he falls for beautiful and brainy Francesca Bruni (Sienna Miller), who has taken a male alias in order to publish pithy tracts about love. Thanks to her mother (Olin), Francesca has been promised to Paprizzio (a heavily padded Platt), known as the lard mogul of Genoa. Randy flirtations and elaborate masquerades to evade the sanctimonious powers-that-be are the cornerstone of this exuberant film.
The bawdy saga recalls the cheeky humor of Shakespeare inLove. There are some priceless lines delivered engagingly by Ledger or drolly by Irons and Platt, who clearly seem to be enjoying themselves. When he is arrested for romancing a nun and charged with "heresy with a novice," Casanova quips: "She was hardly a novice."
The story does sink occasionally under the weight of its plot contrivances. (One of the Inquisition's top figures is suddenly and inexplicably sent off to be eaten by cannibals in South America.) But the plot's forced twists and turns don't detract from the scheming fun. Director Lasse Hallstrom intended the proceedings to be over the top.
Unlike some of the dozen or so films and TV miniseries about Casanova, this version is a light confection intended for audiences who probably aren't familiar with the genre. Its humor and campy, crowd-pleasing energy may make it a surprise hit.

Yes this movie was not what I expected! Delightful and fun, I enjoyed it as well. Thanks so much. Oliver Platt was hilarious it seemed like he put on extra weight for the part. The movie was a surprise, very entertaining.
