Philip S Hoffman quacks for "Batman"

Philip S. Hoffman Quacks For "Batman"

    Posted: Thursday December 22nd, 2005 5:15pm
    Source: Batman on Film
    Author: Garth Franklin

After having the likes of Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman in supporting roles in your first venture, I always said any villains they hire for the potential sequels have to be Oscar nominees at the minimum if they're going to be taken with any credibility.

Now, Batman on Film scored a report from a scooper adding to a rumour earlier this week that this year's most likely Best Actor Oscar winner may be up for a the secondary villain role in the next film - "I live in the Rochester, NY area, which is where Philip Seymour Hoffman grew up. The media has been covering his Golden Globe nomination for Capote, and in a recent interview with his old high school drama teacher (who remains close to him) on a local news program, she confirmed that Hoffman has been in talks to take on The Penguin in the upcoming BATMAN sequel and is very interested in the role".

As for The Joker, the role is many months away from casting as yet though Sam Rockwell is apparently campaigining to try and get the part. Personally if I had a vote, Geoffrey Rush would be my pick.

I'd always through in my vote for the Joker for Mark Hamill, but the studios don't wanna go that way, sadly...

They want nothing to do with the look, nature and actor of the previous films- they will NEVER recast Jack or any other actor from the original films- these new films are intended to have nothing to do with the original films because they went so downhill. British actor Paul Betney has also been mentioned for the films...needs to be someone skinny and lanky, Rockwell is a good choice, I think they can do better.

I saw people dropping names on IMDB.com (which means its meaningless) The 2 that I liked for the Joker were Michael Keaton, that'd be a cool twist or Dane Cook, who would probably do a kick butt job but he's not a big enough star.......yet.

I understand they want to distance themselves from the original movies ... and righfully so.

But Jack was THE perfect Joker and I know he could put a new twist on a character he already played.

    The Joker's Wild!

    Nicholson is hard to beat
Though, I'll settle for this Geoffrey creep
He's quite a Rush, this evil one
If he wants some, he can come get some...

Philip Seymore Penguin and the clown prince
The Batman's justice is dark, intense
The coming film will break the mold
    Holy insanity...it'll knock 'em cold.

Now the question I have is this: The original Burton film spawned the original animated Batman cartoon created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm (bow your heads meer mortals) and these guys invented the woman seen kissing Batman in Ride Warrior's pic- Harley Quinn- the first character to make the reverse transition from the cartoon to the comic book. Her character really adds to the mythos of the Joker so who or whom would you cast in this role?

Don't know if it's true but I did read a few months ago on IMDB that Allan Cumming is the new Joker. Supposedly it was announced at a Warner Brothers shareholders meeting. If you look at his profile picture on IMDB, I think he would work as the Joker.

As long as Christian Bale is back as Batman/Bruce Wayne, I'll be there with my drool bucket.
