Gap shares to lag if Pressler stays at helm
NEW YORK, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Investors and analysts are losing patience with apparel retailer Gap Inc.'s (GPS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) sluggish sales and Chief Executive Paul Pressler, and are looking for a quick fix -- a management shakeup to revive moribund performance and share price.
"Unfortunately for him, if he were to step down, the stock would respond positively," said Christine Chen, an analyst at Pacific Growth Equities.
A Gap representative said the company does not comment on share activity and referred queries about Pressler's tenure at Gap to a letter written in November.
"Under Paul's leadership over the past three years, Gap Inc. has built a foundation for long-term growth, dramatically improving the financial health of the company," wrote Donald Fisher, Gap founder and chairman emeritus, adding that there was no search for a new CEO ongoing.![]()
