Disney looking beyond iTunes
The Walt Disney Co. has sold 1.5 million digital downloads through Apple's iTunes store, including such titles as "Lost," "Desperate Housewives" and "Kim Possible." Disney also is on the hunt for iTunes competitors to further such distribution, an executive said Wednesday. "Other companies with on-demand products will feature some of our content in the near future," chief financial officer Tom Staggs said at an investor event hosted by Atlantic Equities. While the iTunes initiative "has not been a giant mover in terms of the bottom line," Staggs said, it is "an important catalyst for where the business is going." He said that Disney will remain "platform agnostic," demanding only that potential partners provide a "quality consumer experience and requisite intellectual property protection."
