Touchstone chief Pedowitz welcomes CW
(Kimberly Speight)LAS VEGAS -- Having a new, likely more competitive network as a result of the merger of the WB Network and UPN, announced Tuesday, is a good thing for the industry, said Mark Pedowitz, president of Touchstone Television and executive vp at ABC Entertainment Television Group. "This deal takes two weaker networks and combines them hopefully into a stronger network. ... It's too soon to tell how competitive it will be, but having the competition is good," Pedowitz said Wednesday during a "Coffee With" session at NATPE sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter.
Pedowitz also pointed out that the deal between CBS Corp. and Warner Bros. Entertainment that formed a fifth broadcast network dubbed the CW means there is one fewer buyer of content now, but he said he's hopeful that Touchstone will be doing business with the new network.
