Kids, animals, water all 'Shaggy' challenges

"Shaggy" story: Although we usually think of film libraries as being great sources of product to release on DVD, they're also a valuable resource for material to turn into new movies.

A case in point is Walt Disney Pictures' family comedy "The Shaggy Dog," opening March 10, which is based on not one but two films from the studio's library -- the 1959 hit starring Fred MacMurray, Jean Hagen and Tommy Kirk that was one of Disney's earliest black and white, live action features; and its 1976 sequel "The Shaggy D.A.," starring Dean Jones, Tim Conway and Suzanne Pleshette.
