Re: The Official 2006 World Baseball Classic Thread

Good news in the opener for Dodger fans:

Jae-Weong Seo pitched two-hit ball and Chan Ho Park worked three effective innings for a save to lead South Korea past Taiwan 2-0 on Friday in the opener of the inaugural World Baseball Classic.
The 16-nation tournament started at 11:30 a.m. local time and was played before a sparse crowd of 5,193 at Tokyo Dome. Japan was scheduled to play its first game later Friday against China.
Seo started and struck out three in 3 2/3 innings. The Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander threw 61 pitches -- under tournament rules, starting pitchers are limited to 65 pitches in the first round.
Park, who pitches for the San Diego Padres, gave up two hits in the ninth but got pinch-hitter Chih-Yao Chan to ground out to end the game.

More games to come in Tokyo - Tivo is a nice thing to have!! Team USA starts Tuesday - your thoughts are welcome here.

Re: The Official 2006 World Baseball Classic Thread

No question that the U-S is putting a star-studded lineup on the field. Since the Yankees are my 31st favorite team (30 overall in the MLB) It'll be tough for me to root for A-Rod, Jeter, even Roger Clemens (a life-long Angel killer). But, alas, for the good of the country, I shall.

The Dominicans will be hurt by the loss of the Ramirezes and Guerrero, certainly.

Good to see Jimmy Lefebvre back in the dugout, in Japan -

    Thank you,

    Barry

Canada outplayed the United States on Wednesday in the World Baseball Classic. I also watched the Cuba, Panama game that went into extra innings. Looks like the United States ballplayers, might be going home early.

Meantime...ready and waiting for next week's second round...my other favorite place in Anaheim...

The good old "Big A" message board spreading the news to morning rush hour motorists on the Southbound 57 "Orange" freeway...(about three miles east of the DLR)...

These games should be very interesting before they're over.

The semi-finals and finals will be played in San Diego's Petco Park...

    Thank you,

    Barry

Re: The Official 2006 World Baseball Classic Thread

The games are here...starting Sunday at the Big A...

    MLB.com:
ANAHEIM -- The stakes are higher, and the chances of the mercy rule coming into play are much lower, as the four teams representing Pools A and B of the inaugural World Baseball Classic get together for Round 2 beginning Sunday afternoon at Angel Stadium.
Korea and Japan, the top seeds from Pool A, have been in Arizona for nearly a week preparing for their next games. As it turns out, Japan plays Team USA at 1 p.m. PT Sunday and Korea plays Mexico at 8 p.m. PT. Single games are scheduled for Monday night (Team USA vs. Korea), Tuesday afternoon (Japan vs. Mexico), Wednesday night (Korea vs. Japan) and Thursday afternoon (Team USA vs. Mexico).

Wish I could be there this week...but circumstances don't allow it. Any of our MC folks headed to the games here, or the semis and finals next weekend in San Diego?

I hope the games are televised here, so that I can watch them. I was hoping that some baseball was on today, and all that was on was basketball.

Sorry if I misled anybody. That TV listing from ESPN's own website sure looked to me like they had USA-JAPAN, 4pm Eastern Time (1pm Pacific) on ESPN-2. Guess what's on there now?

    TENNIS.

Guess they're showing the USA game later tonight, delayed.

    Thanks, ESPN.
