So, which DVDs have been edited for copyright reasons? I only know of the edits from DVDs for PC and controversial reasons...

It's not officially on DVD... only through bootlegged form right now.

The last releases on home formats were in the UK (VHS) and Japan (Laserdisc).

Apparently a Mouseketeer appearance has been edited out of the "Dateline Disneyland" episode from "Disney Treasures: Disneyland" for copyright reasons. But that is just what I heard.

A few of the Season One Muppet Show episodes were edited due to copyrights, most notably the end song on the Vincent Price episode. Fortunatly, I have the Time Life edition of that episode which is uncut.

this is true. Song of the South was never released in America do to racial issues. I have seen the movie, in my eyes it was one of Disney's worst films ever. When you see it you're in for a total shocker
If life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade. Then find someone who's life has given them vodka and have a party.

I look at you and I see 2 men. The man you are and the man you ought to be. One day those 2 will meet and should make for one hell of a football player!

Dude, please...there have been SO many threads about this and I would be willing to bet that all of them ended in the litter bin. Please, just let some of us be happy and love the movie, you are entitled to your opinion, but let people who haven't seen it go into it with an open mind, whenever that may be...

    Quite well said!
I always enjoyed the film. I never thought there was much of a problem with it at all. No more or less than say, Gone with the Wind. I think it's a very sweet, very quaint film and would recommend it to anyone... if they can get their hands on it. They're not borrowing my copy!

    Wink Song of the South

Sweet! Now I can start organizing mass showings for local children! Pre-schools, daycares, Sunday school classes... The kiddies are going to love this! What fun!

Of course, I won't bother them with any boring extras or anything. Just stick to good old innocent Disney classic fun. Rock on!

I have seen it and there is not even a hint of racism as some people have suggested. I think they are reading far too much into it because all I saw was a very good classic Disney movie.

That'd be like saying Mary Poppins is a feminist movie because the main character is a woman...it just doesn't make any sense to say stuff that isn't there. And if someone thinks THIS movie is racist, take a look at what black actors were doing in the 1940's. If they were even allowed into a movie, they were playing slaves or servants. That's not racist, that's factual history...bad as it is, that doesn't mean it never happened.

No.... Mary Poppins is a feminist movie because Winifred Banks was really pushing the suffragettes.

Don't you remember the song "Sister Suffragette?"

Or "Votes for Women Step in Time!"

The movie was full of strong female leads and weaker, bumbling men.

That is why it's a feminist movie.

I couldn't be more pleased at the hint of the movie being released. I have my own issues with the Disney company; but with this, they can't seem to win: If they change history, (as they've been known to do) they get lambasted, and if they portray it as it was, (like SOTS) they're lambasted.
Like it or not, we had slavery in this country...deal with it.
It has wonderful music, and a classic story, and like Mary Poppins, combined all of their knowledge/technology and talent into one film.

Re: Song of the South Being Released Fall 2006!

there is a difference between a movie being set in a historical time period, and a movie having a blatant theme. Mary Poppins was set during the Suffragette time, and so they put that into the movie. But that's not what Mary Poppins is about by ANY means! If you're going to pick a song to sum up MP, at least pick "Feed the Birds" for crying out loud.

Same thing with SotS. It is set in a TIME period. People ignore the fact that it is based on a book that was written IN that time period, and also (correct me if I'm wrong) the fact that this movie not only employed Disney’s first live actor...but that that actor was African American.
