Disney Stakes Out 2007 - Now Playing - 3/10/2006

Disney is laying out its major release plans for 2007, including sticking the third entry of one of its biggest franchises – Pirates of the Caribbean – smack dab on Memorial Day of that year. That’s a guaranteed treasure for the studio right there. Variety has the report, adding that while the studio is being aggressive with the Pirates placement, it has also backed down with its major holiday cartoon, the CG animated film Meet the Robinsons, which has been pushed to next March. Part of the reasoning for the push, according to Disney, is that it will allow more time for screens to be converted to digital – Meet the Robinsons will play in 3-D in those theaters.
Perhaps not coincidentally, the move also comes at the same time that Pixar bosses Ed Catmull and John Lasseter — who are about to take over Disney’s animation division – have begun to review the Mouse House’s animation slate. Speaking of which, the Pixar-produced Ratatouille is now set for a June 29, 2007 release, and the next Narnia picture, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, is scheduled for a December 14, 2007 bow.
