Live from ShoWest in Las Vegas By Scott Bowles, USA TODAY

Welcome to USA TODAY's notebook from ShoWest in Las Vegas, where theater owners are gathered to see what's new at the movies. Scott Bowles offers this notebook on the summer movies that have exhibitors talking and the stars who show up to peddle their films.

Looks like Pixar and Disney are going to have another hit on their hands with Cars, the animated story about Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson), a hot shot race car who finds himself stuck with the crazy characters of Radiator Springs after a crash.
The film was screened for packed ShoWest audiences at the theaters in the Paris and Bally's casinos, and received rousing ovations at both. Even MPAA chief Dan Glickman was caught tearing up in one scene.
"We've been asking Hollywood to give us more animated and family films," says conventioneer Scott Kline. "Those are the movies that fill our theaters best. Looks like they've listened."
Indeed, about a dozen animated films are headed for the big screen this year, and another one, DreamWorks' Over the Hedge, gets its ShoWest screening Thursday morning.
