The Little Mermaid on Broadway
Any more news about this? I know it is set for 2007-2008... and Pat Carroll is returning which I think is majorly cool... but then again Ursula will probably be a massive puppet.
I can't wait to see this show. It would actually motivate me to visit New York, just this show. If anyone knows anything at all about it, please post!

Can't wait!

I'll go with you to NY if you want to go with me!
Re: The Little Mermaid on Broadway
If the musical has any degree of success, you won't need to cross the pond to see it. It'll eventually show up in the West End (and vice versa).
For example:
Mary Poppins is coming to Broadway next season, and I cannot wait! :)
Wicked is opening in the West End this upcoming season with Idina Menzel as Elphaba. :)
Re: The Little Mermaid on Broadway
We even have Beauty and the Beast for 2 years in a row in vancouver so ya eventually they all will come to your hometown but this would be special to see the premiere

Re: The Little Mermaid on Broadway
I read somewhere that the mermaid show at MGM will be closing in the next year or so as to not compete with the Broadway show. Kind of like what they did with the Tarzan show at Animal Kingdom. Enjoy her now while you've got her!
Re: The Little Mermaid on Broadway
tarzan didn't close because of the musical. if that was true they wouldn't still have the beauty and the beast show at MGM. tarzan went to one of the asian parks, I can't remember which now. and I have not heard a thing about another disney musical opening on broadway except mary poppins. I doubt disney would run 5 shows at the same time. they still have lion king and beauty and the beast running, add mary poppins and tarzan to that mix. those are the ones announced and running currently.

Then they need to close both BATB an TLK shows in WDW if we follow that line of reasoning. However, I have heard that rumor about Voyage of the Little Mermaid. That's a shame, because I do enjoy that show.
And after seeing both BATB and TLK in Broadway, neither show in WDW can compete with them. Tarzan was closed because its proximity to Expedition Everest. They are supposed to enclosing the theatre, and rumor has it a Nemo show will be going in there in its place.
Did Tarzan move to Hong Kong or Toyko?

Neither. Tarzan simply closed. It doesn't show at any of the Disney parks any more.
Re: The Little Mermaid on Broadway
I cut/paste this from Jim Hill's website www.jimhillmedia.com
... One of the main reasons that this new dark ride is being built on Mickey Avenue is that -- sometime in 2007 -- Mickey Avenue's other big attraction, the "Voyage of the Little Mermaid" stage show, will be closing.
Why For? Well, to be honest, for much the same reason that the "Tarzan Rocks!" stage show had to close at Disney's Animal Kingdom back in January. Because Disney Theatrical was prepping the Broadway version of "Tarzan" and they didn't want any authorized Disney "Tarzan"-themed productions out there that their new musical could be compared to.
Sooo ... Given that Disney Theatrical's version of "The Little Mermaid" is reportedly due to arrive on Broadway during the 2007 - 2008 season ... That's why MGM's "Voyage of the Little Mermaid" has to close sometime in 2007.
And given that Disney-MGM could actually use a new attraction that would help drive guests into the backmost portion of this theme park ... Well, that's why (in addition to that construction cost savings) it does make sense to install "Midway Madness" in Soundstages 2 & 3.

Re: The Little Mermaid on Broadway
Mhm. The reason they didn't close Beauty and the Beast is because it is so freakin' popular and is a great crowd reducer down Sunset Boulevard - lets remember Rock and Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror and Fantasmic all have their entrances at the end of the boulevard. If it isn't that reason, I really don't know.
But Tarzan Rocks! did close for this reason - and unfortunately Voyage of the Little Mermaid will as well. I'm still excited though - I'd rather see it on Broadway then at MGM.

I had heard that somewhere before, but I think the provider of that original information got confused with the Festival of the Lion King - a cloned show from Disney's Animal Kingdom which was sent to Hong Kong Disneyland.
Even if the provider did mean Tarzan Rocks!, there is no way it could be performed at the park - the only land it could be performed in is Adventureland and that already has a large theater and a show.

Following
Tarzan, now on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, and
Mary Poppins, scheduled to begin previews at the New Amsterdam Theatre in October, the next likely Disney musical is
The Little Mermaid, based on the hit animated film of the same name.
Playbill.com has learned that a one-week costume/movement lab for
Mermaid will be held in London June 15-22. A spokesperson for the Disney musical told Playbill.com that "six London-based performers who have previously worked with choreographer Stephen Mear will be involved in the lab." No casting has been announced for the upcoming lab.
Doug Wright will pen the book for the musical, which features a score by Alan Menken. Francesca Zambello will direct.
To date, Disney's Broadway offerings include
Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aida and
Tarzan. Visit

Ah, okay, thanks for the clarification!
Re: The Little Mermaid on Broadway
I thought a version of Tarzan Rocks does appear in a park outside the US, but not sure which one.
Also, Has anyone heard the rumors of the Hunchback being on Broadway? There was a German version done with new songs, and also I heard of a TV movie musical...but now I'm beginnning to hear of the Broadway stage too...Perhaps after Mermaid?
