Disney set to launch its own wireless service

It looks like Disney is going to be offering cellular service as of this summer. Go to https://register.go.com/disney/disney_mobile_mvno/index to check it out.

It looks like Disney's own service, I know ESPN has a phone service but it is powered through sprint.

Like ESPN Mobile, I believe Disney Mobile is also a joint venture with Sprint.

Wait is this like actual Disney phones or just service?

Because you know if they put Disney characters on the phone it'll sell like hot cakes. I'd get one lmao.

What the crap, how does Disney think this will make money? Unless this is done through a bigger established wireless company, I can't see why anyone would trust their wireless coverage to Disney, since - well, they aren't a communications company.

    But, whatever...

This is a joint service, like virgin mobile and espn mobile, so the coverage and wireless part will be just as good (for better or worse) than sprints coverage in your area.

I know that the press release talks mostly about the family features, but what will make the service great is if they can make lots of great Disney wallpapers, ringtones, and other mobile games and stuff that are really Disney.

Same here...but I still have like 1.5 years with T-Mobile. I got a little flyer about it enclosed in my Chase Disney credit card this much but didn't provide much info...just a "COMING SOON!!!" thing.

Re: Disney set to launch its own wireless service

^^ According to the Disney release it says that the phone does several things:

Keeps track of minutes, text and photos that the child is downloading

Can put restrictions so that it is an emergency phone.

The Disney difference is that it offers a variety of character backgrounds for the screen. This supposedly gives the Disney "immersive experience."

I just cannot see what is so "Disney" about these phones. They are just cell phones with Mickey on the screen. It reminds me of the computers Disney sold that had mouse ears. Why the bother?

It used to be that Disney was a sign of quality and innovation. I see neither in this phone. It just sounds like an avenue that Disney is trying to squeeze out another buck. I see FLOP all over this. There is too much competition in this market. I say get a Mickey Mouse sticker and put it on your present phone. You then can get the same experience.

Re: Disney set to launch its own wireless service

My guess is that the phones are just under the sprint service with special Disney features, and they're just marketing it as a "service."

Another thing is that they've probley been considering this for a while and decided to test it with ESPN mobile, considering that Disney owns ESPN.

Me? With a Sitich phone? Is that really a good idea?
