Walt Disney World is selling off chunks of excess land on the fringes of its empire, allowing developers to pursue their own real-estate magic.

Disney recently sold 53 acres on Sherberth Road south of Disney's Animal Kingdom to a developer who wants to build hundreds of vacation town homes and condominium units, and another 47 acres on Reams Road, north of the Magic Kingdom, to a home builder.

Another 30 acres is for sale on U.S. Highway 192. And more may be put on the market as soon as the company re-evaluates its vast land holdings in Central Florida, particularly parcels on the far edges.

Disney spokeswoman Andrea Finger said the company is evaluating its Central Florida land holdings to see what fits into its long-term plans and what doesn't.

Anyone knows if this infringes on wildlife preserve... In otherwords, does Disney World have a self imposed "green line"?

Well the resort prides itself on its wildlife reserves, although they do take up 3/4 of the resort, so I expect these would be sold before land that they had already cleared which could be put to possible use in the future.

Huh, I remember when Disney touted Discovery Island as part of a "wildlife reserve..." now it's a Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park...

Could "Wildlife Reserve" = Undeveloped Land Disney can sell?

Part of WDW's agreement with the state is that they must set aside a large piece of land that they can never develope. I doubt what they're selling is it.

My opinion? Bad idea. It's bad enough we have what we do just across the street from Downtown Disney. Walt bought that much land to control what goes around. Defeats the purpose if people can litterally see DKA in their backyard.

Well, if Disney is shrinking their WDW resort, they should grow their Disneyland Resort!
