One of the first DVD's I ever bought was "The Man who Shot Liberty Valance" and the title song was sung by Gene Pitney. Great movie and great song.

    Re: Gene Pitney RIP

Gene Pitney is probably underrated for his contributions to American music...he did many reallt good songs. I'll never forget this one, because it'll always remind me of being separated from loved ones when I was a child:

Please let me hold you and love you for always and always
"Only Love Can Break A Heart...Only Love Can Mend It Again"...
One of the great uses for whistling in a pop song...

And another classic from a pretty interesting movie of the same name..."Town Without Pity"...

How can we keep love alive
    How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do
Thanks BD> I'm finding out that in musical matters, among other things, you are refreshingly wise beyond your tender years...

    Re: Gene Pitney RIP

If Gene's songs don't speak for themselves as far as his talents I have three legendary songs that will prove it...

    1. "Rubber Ball"-Bobby Vee
    2. "Hello Mary Lou (Goodbye Heart)"-Ricky Nelson
    3. "He's A Rebel"-The Crystals

ALL THREE songs were written by Gene Pitney.

Not only that but Gene Pitney played keyboards on the first albums by the Rolling Stones.

Now if that ain't the mark of a musical legend, I don't know what is.

BD...I hope I'm not blowing your cover here...

Folks, do you realize that this guy knows this stuff...that last bit I dodn't know...and at the time he was born, Boy George and Cyndi Lauper and the Go-Go's were topping the charts! I am impressed!

    Cool Re: Gene Pitney RIP

well thank you Barry. Consider my cover blown LOL

Gene Pitney was inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, the year I graduated from High school. My senior year I was writing entertainment columns for my high school's newspaper. I decided to write about that year's inductees and I was amazed at what Gene Pitney had done in his career. He definitely deserved his induction.

Unofortunately there are so many others that deserve induction but have yet to be inducted and some of them never will because of the arrogance of the board of directors.

If there is one hall of fame that is spot on is the Country music HOF in Nashville. Not only do they induct everyone that deserves induction, they have exhibits that spotlight over genres important to Country music and the Nashville music scene in general.
