Zucker has right stuff for 'Scary' franchise
    The Hollywood Reporter
    By Anne Thompson

While most Hollywood movie franchises inevitably run out of steam, the Weinstein Co.'s "Scary Movie" series is the gift that keeps on giving. That's because, unlike most sequels, the "Scary" movies are as fresh as the movies they parody. And luckily for the franchise, these days there's no dearth of horrific movies to play with: "Scary Movie 4," which opens on 3,500 screens April 14, takes on "The Grudge," "Saw," "The Ring 2," "The Village" and "Brokeback Mountain."

    Ani fare faces 'Scary' proposition
Fourth in satire franchise slated to top 'Meltdown,' rookie 'Wild'
    The Hollywood Reporter
    By Gregg Kilday

As 20th Century Fox's "Ice Age 2: The Meltdown" enters its third weekend, the first blockbuster hit of year finally should cede the top spot at the boxoffice. The movie that is ready to shoulder it aside is Dimension Films' "Scary Movie 4," the fourth installment in the reliably remunerative parody franchise.

That should leave "Meltdown" to take the No. 2 spot over Buena Vista's new animated release "The Wild" during the Easter weekend.

Bowing in more than 3,600 theaters, the PG-13 "Scary 4" has a wide-open field ahead of it. The series, which kicked off in 2000 with Keenen Ivory Wayans' spoof on such titles as "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," proved unexpectedly powerful, bowing in the No. 1 spot in July 2000 to the tune of $42.3 million, collecting an eventual domestic gross of $157 million.
