    American Inventor

Is anyone watching this? Someone, somewhere told me I should watch it... since the NBC shows were reruns last night, I did... I was glad I missed all the previous shows because this was the nitty gritty and the recaps weren't great. They went from 50 to 24 to 12 finalists. VERY interesting inventions (some good some bad!). The final 12 have $50,000 and 4 weeks to more fully develop their concept and ideas.

My favorite is the child saftey seat that is round - the actual car seat is strapped into it and when there's an impact, the seat moves around in that round saftey seat so the child isn't jerked forward.

I love the kid from Venezuela, too.

There are a few I like - such as the HUGE sand shovel and the pa that goes under wigs - but are applicable for such a narrow group that I don't think they should win this. I hope that someone with more interest in those type of things doees fund them, though.

but that one judge in glasses I can't stand. What a jerk. I was glad the lady yelled at him and put him in his place!

next week in the sand shovel guy, the inverted umbrella lady (GREAT idea, though the thing was way too long) and I forget the other one!

And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

That is my favorite too. Great idea. And his story is so sad.

I think he is from Colombia (if you are talking about the guy with the bike invention.)

Yes, the glasses guy (the "inventor") is a pompous jerk at times. I loved it when the lady asked him if anyone had ever told him that he wasn't always the smartest guy in the room.

Ah, he might be from Columbia! My bad. He has a good idea, too, if it can pass the safety tests.

Oh yeah, do you know what that guy has invented?

The sandbagger and the wig thing are GREAT inventions. I see your point, but I don't think that the idea is for everyone in America to use the thing--heck, I wouldn't EVER use the carseat, but it is still an awesome invention. I think one of these two should win actually, since they are both for a population of the country that REALLY needs these things.

    Just my two cents.

I see where you're coming from... I'll most likely never use the car seat either, but I think that more people can benefit from it then, say, the wig thing, you know?

But they are both great ideas

the 'carseat' guy just wrenches my heart!!! it amazes me how babies so young, for such a short time in our lives..can impact it forever. His grief still is so strong and real. It makes me so very sad. I think it is an absolutely awesome idea..but it makes me wonder if the baby in it wouldn't experience motion sickness? maybe it can be stationary w/ a small 'catch' that releases it to move upon impact?

I tried watching this show, but I can't get into it. I saw the guy with the sandbag filler, and the kid with the bike thingy, but I haven't seen the baby seat one.
Maybe I'll have to try to catch it again.
Well, I think you're crazy, I think you're crazy, I think you're crazy, just like me.

    Re: Anerican Inventor

Last night's show sucked my roommate in.
I can't believe the one guy did'nt want to change ANYTHING! He couldn't even see that there could be more than one use for his prouct. I was hoping the judge would see that (not to mention spending the money on himself!!) and not put him through to the finals.

I still like the "inbrella." Too bad it didn't work. But it has the possibility of working... I hope she doesn't give up.

But the guy who got pulled through, really tugged at the heartstrings!!

Next week is the doll, the Columbia kid's bike and I forget the third one.

I've only watched last week's show. What is the toilet thing? What product was it the guy didn't want to change?

    Re: American Inventor

I'm not sure what toilet thing you're talking about?

It was the guy with the shovel for sandbags. The judge suggested that he change the color to grey, add a handle and something else? They have a focus group and someone sugests making it smaller to scoop up toys, etc. So the guy goes to the meeting with the company that was going to create the prototype and he won't listen to their suggestions either. He says it's 95% done, he wants it yellow, etc. Then 2 days later he fires them and hires someone else, and focuses on the packaging of his product.

In the end, he attached a cheap looking strap to it (himsel) and had spent $20,00 of the $50,00 - including buying himself a new suit and a haircut!

What's sad it that they worked - they did a competition of "professional" sangbaggers vs. a regular fanmily... The family did something like 119 to the others 87.

The toilet thing was the one presented by the couple who the guy said he'd go to Mexico if he got the $50,000. I couldn't tell what the product was.

Oh... Right. I remember that... OH! Yeah, it was this filter for your toilet so all the germs and such don't get out when you flush!

    Re: American Inventor

I hope the sandbagger guy gets someone to manufacture his product. It is awesome, but because of his bad attitude I am glad that he didn't make it further. I about died when he started buying clothes with the money! He at least could have had the strap added professionally! What the heck was he doing that whole month, having facials??????
