Miramax is developing a biopic of writer and psychologist, Timothy Leary for a big screen adaptation.

The studio has the rights to the Robert Greenfield novel, Timothy Leary: A Biography and has set Bill Wheeler to write the script. Wheeler will also serve as a co-producer, says Variety.

Greenfield's book tells the story of how Leary, a Harvard professor, rose to become a prominent voice of the 1960s anti-establishment movement. Greenfield is a former associate editor of Rolling Stone's U.K. operation and also the author of the books S.T.P.: A Journey Through America With the Rolling Stones, Bill Graham Presents: My Life Inside Rock and Out, and "Dark Star: An Oral Biography of Jerry Garcia.

Harcourt Books will publish Leary on June 6; there's no production date scheduled for the film.
