Walt Disney Pictures' $500 million dog - The Hollywood Reporter 4/26/06

    April 26, 2006
    The Hollywood Reporter
    'Dog' days for 'Priscilla's' Elliott

After more than a decade away from the big screen, Australian director Stephan Elliott is shifting from gender bending in the Outback to a family comedy about a wealthy dog for Walt Disney Pictures. Elliott -- best known as the writer and director of 1994's "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," the comedy about two drag queens and a transsexual who land a cabaret gig in the remote regions of Australia -- has sold an original comedy pitch to Disney. Elliott, with writing partner Sheirdan Jobbins, will pen the comedy, which he would direct. It is tentatively titled "In the Name of the Dog," and it centers on a family pet who inherits $500 million. (Sheigh Crabtree)

Do I have to be the one to say it . . . Is Disney Pictures really going to the dogs? They are going to release not only this picture but a live action Underdog as well? They just did an update of the Shaggy Dog and a picture about some sled dogs left in the wilderness. Too many dog movies in my opinion.

A live action Wonderdog? Woof! I bet that will be a howlin' success.

Yes yes the whole concept is a bit dog-eared. *groan*

The plot sounds a little like the recent DVD release Bailey's Billion$:

A billionairess bypasses her nephew in her will and leaves her estate to her dog, BAILEY. The nephew and his wife kidnap the dog in order to get the inheritance to revert to them but their plan is thwarted by a little girl and her mother and canine behaviousist, Ted (Theodore) Maxwell.
