Have a mice day: Mickey gets run of 'Clubhouse'

A computerized Mickey is as warm & friendly as ever.

"Mickey Mouse Clubhouse." Friday night at 7:30,
Saturday morning at 9, Disney Channel.

Time passes and generations change, but Mickey Mouse endures.
The rodent with short pants became an instant sensation in Walt Disney's 1928 cartoon short "Steamboat Willie."
In 1940, he tugged at conductor Leopold Stokowski's tails, and brought brooms to water-pail-toting life in the movie "Fantasia." And in 1955, he lent his name and image to ABC's "The Mickey Mouse Club," one of the most successful children's programs of all time.
Mickey and his dog, Pluto, were featured in a cartoon, "Pueblo Pluto," on the first installment of "The Mickey Mouse Club." And almost 80 years after Mickey first whistled in "Steamboat Willie," they're key players in the newest jewel in the Disney crown: "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse."

    Mickey Mouse: 2.8M Viewer Record

Disney Channel's Friday premiere of "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," the CG-animated series that uses Mickey, Pluto and other characters to teach math skills to preschoolers, was the highest-rated Playhouse Disney series premiere ever, with 2.8 million total viewers, according to figures from Nielsen Media Research.

That's a pretty big tally for cable TV, especially for such a narrowly targeted show. In fact, that's nearly what "South Park," Comedy Central's top-rated program, does for a new episode. I'm going to take a wild stab that the audiences for the two shows overlap only slightly. (You know who you are.)
